Butch Jones... How much longer

Was it just me but did Mizz just simply look more talented than we did? Or perhaps just older and stronger? It was evident to me that this game was going to be tough to win after the first 10 minutes. They not only dominated the lines, but the blocking and defense on the edges especially. Their d-backs and receivers man handled our younger guys BIG TIME.

And to think we still had our shots late in the game should give us continued hope. Not the crap making up this post.

Some things you just can't scheme through. I swear some of you thnk with the right strategy, granny in a wheelchair could take out Tyson in the ring during his prime...

Bullseye. This hits the nail squarely on the head.

Serious question. People will blast me as a negavol ect. But like it or not... Hes not going to return us to prominence. Hes a great recruiter but a terrible tactician. And he's just one of these guys that scared to death of life. Like the guy in the highway that slams on his brakes in the middle of an intersection when the light turns yellow. I've been in the fence about him but I'm not anymore. We've lost almost every winable game he's coached in while here. The two he won (sc) both took miraculous comebacks that never should have been required. We were firmly in control of both games in the second half before getting conservative and trying to run out the clock. Last night we saw an example of a great coach. They got the ball off a to late in the game while leading and put their foot on our throats and won.

So two questions...Who's next and how much longer before we can afford to part with Butch? Serious questions so please don't merge...

I agree with most of your points, but butch is our guy. We will be domenent off of sheer talent in the coming years. Yes there are coaches out there that can do more with less. Butch isn't one of those guys. But with the right arsenal CBJ is going to wage war on the sec and the nation.

Pinkel has been at Mizzou for years...he has faith in his system and players...Jones hasn't had the same luxury. Check back with us in 2 years...Butch isn't going anywhere until then...you on the other hand need to check out the benefits of Prozac.

The offensive line was getting blown up. Coaches could have run two tight ends but they were getting beat inside and outside.
Dobbs was limited with space and time. Missouri has a great defense.

Are you trying to make a point with any of that? All of it? Or are you somehow agreeing with me?

Seriously, we have to stop all this fire the coach talk every time we lose a game. Mizzou is a very talented and well coached team. We started a true freshman center last night , we're missing the production that we get from AJ. The turnovers really hurt us. The margin for error in these SEC games is extremely slim. We had a receiver miss catching a ball that lands in the hands of a MU player. They throw up the deep ball and our guy is in position but gets outplayed by the other player. Bottom line is they beat us. Hindsight is always 20/20. Let's go kick the $*** out of Vandy

I'll take a stab at it. I think we go sometime like 7-5 next year and again the following season. Then we have to part with him. At this point he is the decision of our ad so he's going to be as supportive as possible. After that I just hope there is an up and comer talented guy willing to take the job. My ultimate dream guy would be if Peyton Manning was done with his playing career and interesting in coaching. But as for right now a guy like Patterson or briles would have made a better coach than Butch.
One thing that totally sucks is that the ad is just given total control to make this decision. It should be done by committee. And include a guy like Fulmer. We brought in this new ad that has dedicated his life to bama and has no experience making these types of decisions. When a company chooses a ceo... There is a whole team of people involved in the decision

That coach across the field from Butch last night has a ton of Jimmy's and Joe's doesnt he?

I would think and NFL caliber defensive line qualifies. Don't believe me go look at the respective defensive ranks. Get back to me when we aren't starting 7 freshman for the first time in school history, plus the other 10 taking snaps. WTF

Jones is the right guy... Not so sure about baj, Mahoney and azzani though..

Can we all say Sam Pittman?

Arkansas OL rocking along; Alabama comes calling and Arkansas ties Pittman up. He had better credentials than what CBJ brought in, but, loyalty to the staff all the way up through the MAC/Big East conferences has left us where we are.

Regardless of bowl this year, CBJ may be looking at staff changes. Somewhere, somehow, the coaches have to make adjustments on field instead of stubbornly keeping to the game plan/process they brought.

While nothing can totally offset inexperience/inferior play, having an abundance of coaching skill would mitigate the problems a bit.

That our play call was limited due to our lack of protection and blocking? I agree with that.

Nothing better than a delayed handoff against a team that could blow past our o-line. It's a great idea to wait on the handoff until Mizzou already has 4 players in our backfield.

Here is the deal. I give all the credit to mizzou they had a perfect game plan on defense. Played mostly zone in the secondary and they knew ther d-line would give us fits. I don't blame us as much as I applaud the mizzou coaching staff for taken away our strengths and knowing that this is only Dobbs third game starting and making it difficult for him against the zone d. They also knew dobbs doesn't have the strongest arm in the world as far as throwing the deep ball so they took away everything else and dared is to throw deep and we never did.

Their linebackers are not stupid. It's a great concept when you have a successful pass game. They had all of our screens snuffed out as well.

If there is one takeaway from sec football it is this: recruiting and continuity is absolutely necessary. Missouri and the Mississippi teams can be used as an example. Butch and company are recruiting very well. We are missing continuity and player development. Especially after so much instability, we must give Butch time an evaluate him over the long haul. We've been competitive in just about every game. We are likely going bowling. Improvement is self evident.

He has a bunch of players he recruited that have a long time in his system.

And in spite of being in first place in the East, they nearly just lost to the 4th place team. So there is that.

Give him credit...the last two years Pinkel has found a way to win. The East being so down has benefited him tremendously though.

The East being down makes no sense. How do you define being down? Losing games? Well Mizzou is winning those games over the traditional teams, therefore they're losing them. I could argue that our record would be better and we wouldn't be as "down" if Mizzou hadn't joined the SEC and gone 3-0 vs us. Mizzou has come in and beaten the majority of the teams on their SEC schedule that's what's put folks down.
