Butch Jones has a low football IQ

As hard of a loss that was to watch and as easy as it was to predict as soon as the tide began to turn, my only question that I honestly didn't understand from Butch's perspective was why he didn't call time out on the 4th in goal in the 1st OT. The defense stopped them 3 times and was obviously a little winded and from the look of the play, the defense had no idea what to do. I'm not one of those fans that has written the Vols off but I do like to understand why certain things are done in crucial situations. The 3 plays prior Oklahoma had done nothing but run with the QB and RB yet we looked like we had no idea that was coming. BTW a stop there would have won the game....

Please advise...

WOW...are you guys joking, I understand being upset but wow. He has us on the right track. We were in a horrible situation and almost have balance. You want to start over again. Name a coach that wiuld come here and do a better job. We made a bowl game last year and won. Now we need to win 8 games this year. It is completely possible still.

Expect many more games like last night unless talent can overcompensate for the coaching.

This game was the very same has the Florida game last year playing not to lose when UT had the lead instead of to win. Butch got out coached in this game. I am beginning to wonder about this coaching staff.

I'm getting too old to waste my time on this $h!+ anymore. I'll catch the highlights on ESPN if I hear they win a game of significant importance. Other than that, I once again reserve my Saturday's for something more meaningful than this garbage we saw tonight.

Don't come back then...

Some people live and die by one game. It was a tough loss to take. Should we have won? Yes, but don't give up after one loss. If you had us going 11-1 you are delusional. We have a ton of freshmen and rs freshman still playing. At some point we can't use youth as an excuse but the fact is we are still really young. Everybody bought into the hype that we were winning the east, and it can still happen but all we need is to improve. 8-4 is an improvement and is still very likely. Nobody on our schedule looked good yesterday(with the exception of maybe bama, nobody expected to win that one anyway). Let the season play out. If we are not 8-4 then we didn't improve and I will jump on board with criticism. Until then though let's see if any adjustment are made and see if this team and coaching staff can improve. At the very least don't give up on our players. If you want to jump off now, please don't come back because you are not real fans. GBO

I hated that they lost. It sucks even more knowing they really could have won. Knowing that one or two plays could have changed the outcome (pass interference on an uncatchable ball, Ellis missing the catch, false start not called) is hard to swallow. Tennessee was the better team last night. The offense seemed disinterested once they got the lead. There was no fight in them and they started getting sloppy. After all that, I still think we will have a good season. We have a good team, and after watching everyone else play yesterday, I think we will win the majority. We just have to find some balance.

Here comes the fire butch mob. HE HAD TO COMPLETELY REBUILD A PROGRAM!!! Same results next year and then I will agree. 2016 has been our year for success since the beginning, NOT 15'!!! By the way, the season has just begun and how many of you seriously had us beating Okie this year, at the end of last years game against them? We can still easily be a 9-3 team this year!!!!

I'm definitely not fir butch but I will say we are year 3 and 80 percent and bulk if all starters are freshmen and sophmores. .......they a fact year 3 and we should not be relying so much on youth. Thst why u can't close the deal relying in youth will do that

I watched the press conference with Butch and I never heard him once say anything about the coaching staff being part of the problem last night. Instead I heard more like the players need to clean up what they are doing. I think Butch would have been better served showing a little humble pie in that interview.

Some people on this board are just shameful. Jones took over a program bereft of talent. Half of his players don't even know where their classrooms are yet. He had freshmen and sophomores all over the field going toe to toe against a powerful and tradition rich foe. Sure maybe he could have done some things in the game differently and maybe if he had it would have gone worse.

Don't give up guys. This team is still being built. Opposing coaches point prospects to boards like this.

They point them to game film and the absolute misuse or total ignoring of talent

Also the unending, almost ignorant chants of WRU when you won't throw the damn ball to the receivers

They come to UT to catch balls. Not to block for a stupid ass offensive scheme

I'm beginning to lose faith in the playbook Butch brought with him. I know to Butch it seems extensive, but every play looks almost exactly the same. We don't run a lot of different sets. I thought last year it was vanilla because of youth, but I'm beginning to think this is it. It's going to be hard to win consistently when you expect your team to line up week after week and physically dominate your opponent without also out scheming them. This is the SEC, and that ain't going to happen.
The only way Butch will stay here is if he expands his playbook with multiple set looks. I hate to say that because I love what Butch has done so far.

Wow! I have been a vol fan my whole life. Nearly 50 years! Not one time have I ever posted on volnation. I have to say most of you guys on here are an embarrassment. I watched a young and hardworking tennessee team leave it all on the field. They busted it the entire game. Ive watched a very competent coach recruit and motivate some very good talent to marked improvement each year. Im not sure what you nay sayers are watching. We have good players and good coaches giving there all and buying in. It was a heart breaking loss for sure. We dont need to hear all you cry babies any more. Its this freaking type of attitude from a bunch of low character cry babies that got the best coach we ever had fired. Grow some! Act like grown men! You want a championship level football program support the players and the coaches! They are at a pivotal point in this young season and they need us to rally around them! Not divide them!

People need to take a breath. We still have a depth problem and this "terrible coaching" had us ahead for 3.5 qtrs. I'm as disappointed as anyone, we should have won the game, but take a step back and realize this was never going to be our year. When 56 went out OU started moving because there is a huge drop off behind him! Then TKjr gets hurt at a critical time from friendly fire.

The hype machine took off and unrealistic expectations creeped in. FACT: We still have the opportunity to win the SEC East with a very young team and must stay healthy to do it. There isn't a team on our schedule we won't have a chance against (save maybe Bama) IF we can keep key players on the field. I'm curious to see what all the naysayers talk track will be if we go on to a great season.

DaleDoe say: Mike Debod is a old, washed up coach. Maryville HS wouldn't have hired that clown as OC, but Butch sure did. Our defense was depleted in 4th qtr due to offense going 3 & out in second half. We will do good to go 6-6 this year, say DaleDoe....

It's a shame. Butch is a great recruiter, he gets the tradition and history of the program, and he seems like a good dude. However he just doesn't seem to be a good game day coach. No way we should of lost last year against UF and we dam sure shouldn't of lost tonight. Until he proves otherwise, he doesn't have what it takes to win on game day. The better team lost today but the better coaches won, and I hate Bob Stoops. Hopefully he can prove me wrong with the rest of the season.

Why did we not try to score with 40 seconds left. I saw a couple of times where Butch and Debord did not have faith in the offense they have been coaching for the last year. You've got to go for it when you're on their 1 yard line. The WR's have to more involved even if it's a jet sweep. Keep the D off balance.

He has 2 weeks to get it right, and hopefully we get Maggitt back. The defense was not as effective when he went out.

Debord was a horrible hire.
No adjustment on offense during the game.
Constant blitzing of lb's and cb's from the backside on 1st down, crashing down on on the rb on the read option; NO adjustments; NONE; Dobb's did not keep the ball enough to make the D respect the QB keep (by design from the coaching staff vs poor read by Dobb's?); when Dobb's did run....went straight up the the middle for 1 yd....poor read? Coaching instructions?; OU was daring the Vols to pass and crashing the read option like they did LAST year when Worley was running it; where were the adjustments?

Overall, D played well.......gassed bc O was 3 and out entire 2nd half; they simply wore down

I'll agree that Debord was a bad hire and it was a huge mistake and I was proven right. But the real problem is that were just to young and there's not enough true leadership. When things turned bad there was no-one out there trying to pump up our guys. We also aren't deep enough. Yes our 1s are some of the best and even a couple of the 2s but the guys behind them aren't that great. Some just need time to develop.

We were the lower ranked team and even with our talent there was a reason for that and it's not all coaching. Heck how many top teams lose a close game to a tough opponent each year, all but one or two. I'll see how the Florida game goes before I make a judgement on cbj abilities as a coach. Oh and at least we didn't get beat by Toledo after way too much off-season hype saying we're returning to the top. We lost to a more senior team that has had a lot more experience on the roster handling expectations and playing in big games in the spotlight and most on this board considered a loss in a 9-3/8-4 season. Anyone who truly expected more than 8 wins, 9 if things bounced our way, was just refusing to see without their orange glasses on and were just setting themselves up for disappointment. We can still win the east, but a playoff shot was just a dream.

"I was proven right"

You were the only one that thought is was a poor hire? A laughable comment at best considering the FACT that it hasn't been proven.
