That is why Dooley is one of the worst coaches in TN history if not the worst!

Actually they didn't have Patterson or Hunter when they lost to KY. They still should have won though.

Yeah no matter who we didn't have. They didn't have a SINGLE QB! NOT ONE!

It's time for Butch to go but those two are not in the same discussion. Dooley literally ran this program into the ground and recruited terribly. I give Butch credit for rolling up his sleeves and taking on this job and get us to at least a respectable level. It's just time for the next guy to take us over the top.

Nah Kiffin wasnt bad. We only dislike Kiffin because he left us. As our right. I was mad as hell and out there with everybody burning mattresses but Kiffin wasnt a bad coach at UT.

Fair point, but we have gotten a few guys away from some big time schools. Got JG, Ohio St was in his final two or three. I think anyone can recruit at Tennessee but I think Butch has got a couple here and there. I'll still take Butch over Dooley. Doesn't mean he is great. It's like picking the better looking girl at the bar at 3am after you have struck out all night.

Except you had several high school coaches in the state of Tennessee come out banning us from recruiting inside their school. Dooley damaged relationships. Butch at least repaired that issue.

It's a comparison between which one has failed more miserably. Without Dobbs scrambling ability, Butch might have only a couple of SEC wins. However, Dooley gets the slight nod as worst due to losing to a bad Kentucky team with a WR playing QB.

Absolutely right. Dobbs made Butch look way better than he is.

I'll break down my view for ya:

Media and camera spokesman likability:
I'll take Dooley.

Debatable and subject to taste. Dooley said some stupid stuff... but not with the consistency of Jones.

Recruiting:
Butch

Yes. Some blamed his personality but most blamed Dooley's lack of commitment in time and energy to recruiting. Supposedly he didn't want his coaches away from home as much as they needed to be in order to succeed in recruiting... including himself.

Game day decisions:
Dooley

Playcalling:
Dooley

Coach hires:
Toss up

Kind of a mixed bag. Take out Sunseri and Dooley wins going away. Wilcox and Chaney are demonstrably better than anyone Jones has hired.

The funny part to me is that I don't think Dooley really used a "strategy" in hiring. He just hired coaches he thought were good.

Jones has pursued a strategy and especially on O of hiring guys who would run HIS system.

And the winner is!!!
NOBODY! They both suck.

For different reasons... but yes.

Purely as a "football coach"... Dooley is smarter and probably better than Jones. As a manager of the program, Jones is better.

At least we jettisoned Dooley after 3 years. Butch is like the dog crap that you get on your shoe when you walk in a public park ..,.tough sh*t get rid of.
