Butch Jones Discussion

And with that you have now jinxed Nebraska. Every time you all shout out for a coach - that team stumbles. They have Iowa (... you know the team that beat Michigan ...) at Iowa next week. They could end up 9-4 again with no improvement.

And they lost to Wisconsin so they won't even win their division unless Wisconsin loses to Minnesota and they beat Iowa - sound like a familiar situation?

Guess what Nebraska was steamrolled today ---

Wasn't it reported somewhere, both Debord & Shoop being considered for Deleware job? If one leaves & Butch bolts, Dec & Jan will be fun.

Fact- when I posted that, Nebraska was indeed on pace for 11 wins. I said nothing that was false.

Fact: We know what you posted, when you posted it and we know the point you were trying to make. You were wrong.

I want butch gone but he deserves 1 more year. I want to see if he is smart enough to make the changes to his staff that needs to be addressed or he sticks to his usual hard headed self. Either way I smell a 6 and 6 or 7 and 5 season next year and that will do him in.

I've been vocal about the stupidity of wanting CBJ fired this year......but IMO more than 3 losses puts him on the hot seat next year. Actually 3 probably does it if they're bad losses.

Agreed.

Not much point in discussing Butch getting fired this year.

He wins less than 8 next year and I believe his seat gets really warm with a new AD in place.

I really have no idea how CBJ will preform next year. I own and run a business so I tend to evaluate CBJ the way I would if I were running Tennessee football. What I think he will do is irrelevant.

CBJ has made some mistakes. I'd even call them blunders. He's corrected some of those and made improvement so that's the trend......However.......as improvements are made, the opportunity for continued improvement shrinks dramatically. Next year is the turning point of pass or fail.

I get that there are those who have decided what will happen, I just choose to evaluate in the present instead of the future.

Now dealing in the present....a loss to Vandy tomorrow could make 2017 a "decision" season.

I look at 2017 as the evaluation or "decision" year for the new AD. As I responded to you earlier in the other thread, it may be as simple as Jones and a new AD not getting along that could ease the temperature up on his seat next year.

I'll disagree on Jones correcting mistakes and progressed with the improvement though. Yes, the wins have gone forward but how they got there has been a lot rougher.

My disdain for Jones this season comes from them taking a step back from a discipline stand point in special teams, defense, and penalties, along with an offensive line that seems to be stuck in neutral development wise.

I know injuries hurt but there shouldn't be a fundamental loss of disciplined football across the board. It's also pretty bad the way this team has come out unmotivated to begin games and that came to a head against SC. This season has basically felt like 1 step forward, 2 steps back from last season to me.

Those are just some major red flags for a team that had championship aspirations and it reminds me a lot of the 2005 season. With Jones getting defensive the past few weeks in the press conferences, definitely having some Fulmer flashbacks.

The Nebraska argument comes down to coaching. I have said that from very beginning. Riley is taking a 5 win team in his first year to 11 wins if they win a bowl game.

Y'all posted Butch'a record vs Rileys in a few posts back. Coaching is the reason why Butch isn't 5-8 wins better in his time here. Riley has won the games he has too at Nebraska. Can't say the same for Butch.

And the schedule argument-- Take Alabama off Tennessee'a schedule and it gets weaker. Our toughest team becomes an overrated A&M team. Take Ohio State off Nebraska'a schedule and it gets weaker. Their roughest team becomes Wisconsin. Riley won the games he was supposed too. Butch has not.

Fact- when I posted that, Nebraska was indeed on pace for 11 wins. I said nothing that was false.

I guess if you mean only that one post you're technically correct.

You also posted that if Nebraska wins their bowl game they would finish with 11 wins.

In summary:

Vols lose by 3 to South Carolina - fire Butch.

Huskers lose by 30 to Iowa - at the time I posted that they were on pace for 11 wins - so nothing I said was false.
