For the record, Pig and Maggitt's injuries hurt worse than we could've imagined. May be 5-0 with a healthy Maggitt considering Defensive breakdowns have killed us. Contrary to what people may think, this post is not about taking a stance on Butch...just pointing out how messed up this year is from many different angles.

Good post. In addition to Pig and Maggitt,I think we miss Marcus Jackson on the O line and Gaulden at nickel. Our O- line and secondary both need help. Lots of key injuries this year have really hurt this team.

A few thoughts about how frustrated I am right now - Usually after losing a game, we get a surprise commitment from Butch to keep us fans semi-happy. Not a one though this year. Mark it down, we'll lose the assistant coaches that we want to keep (Gillespie, Thig) at the end of the year and the others will latch on like a tick on a dog in the country and won't go anywhere. Recruits will start bailing and I'd say even Dale Carter's kid (Warrior) isn't happening for us. I'm hoping that some of that young talent on our roster doesn't transfer, but it wouldn't surprise me. Hoping that current players will continue to give their all for Tennessee, but a 5-7 record and no bowl game would not surprise me at this point. Hoping for the best as I am taking my son to his first Vol game against UGA. I'm just hoping he doesn't become a Georgia fan at the end of it.

Hopefully Butch can keep recruits coming during the rest of his time here, but I suspect many of them, having a working set of eyeballs, will realize that Butch's brick house is built on a foundation of sinking sand.

I can partially agree with the coaching failure on the fundamental aspect....but, no coach, at least I have to think, teaches blocking in the back or how to properly fumble in the red zone. That accounts for at least 2 scoring opportunities and both were due to player errors.

I know there were physical mistakes and we're young, and there's a depth problem, but this team just doesn't pass the eye test. They're completely on their heels and look scared to earth as soon as there's adversity. You can tell they have talent, but they're just not making ANY key plays. By year 3, that shouldn't be the case and I don't see how this team avoids a death spiral if they lose the next two weeks. Butch gets year 4 due to economics, but I don't think he's the guy.

You are correct. Coaching did not lose this game....players did:
1) Medley missed FG...again.
2) Poor tackling on defense (too many young players)
3) OL blocking (again)
4) penalty (blocking in back on Kamara punt return for TD).
5) Williams fumble in Red Zone driving for score.
6) Dropped passes...Williams, Malone.

Based on these points the Vols should have scored at least 17 more points and won the game. We are still real young team. Next year we get better.

I remember people supporting DD I prob did at one time. This time the hand writing is on the wall for me. I won't spend any more money on UT football until we hire someone who can coach big boy football

The same Dobbs that led us to big wins over USCe, UK and Iowa and who all of you had crowned as a Heisman candidate. The same Dobbs who had a great game last week against Florida and last year against Bama. The same Dobbs that last night threw passes to open receivers who couldn't catch the ball. The same Dobbs who continues the get sacked or TFL because of poor OL play. Yes Dormady is the answer...start him against Georgia that will work.

I'm sorry butch is 14-16 in year 3 with 3-4 sure wins on the schedule every year.he had a chance to keep a great o-line coach and recruiter but instead kept his budy staff.He had a chance to hire a big time OC but instead hired a long time Bud that hadn't called plays in years. Jones refuses to change his philosophy ( that sucks) and I think Tennessee is not getting better at many junctions of the game

Coaches should be teaching correct blocking technique and ball security/how to carry and protect the ball in your hands. Notice that fumbling has been happening with lots of different players, not just one or two guys. It suggests that the team as a group is being instructed poorly. JMO though.

He started picking off Dooley's players. Some were very good players but his ego wouldn't let him keep them. Peterman is excelling under Chaney at Pitt. He can recruit that's been proven. He degrades his players. Threatens them everyday with their scholarships. He does not build their confidence.
He is all about looks. From the facility to clothing. That's fine if your winning! The players hate him. It's not just him they hate a few other coaches also.
He lies to his players and staff. Pig cussed them out. He's over their military degrading BS. He pulls players (his recruits) into his office and tells them he will help them transfer cause they aren't living up to their stars.
All that you see in the public is a show.
We have some really great players they are just not honed to their potential. Under the right coach they would be phenomenal.

I like Butch Jones. He is has the it factor as far as talking shaking hands kissing babies etc. But he is lacking in the coaching department. If us the fans want change we need to stop going to the games the vol walk and etc. The university needs to clean house and start over. I am not going to waste time watching the games it's a shot in the dark for us to even make the blue bonnet bowl. The way this team has started out we were supposed to win 10 plus games we should be 5-0, 4-1. This is crazy.

Every vol fan that thinks we need to fire butch is why this program will never get on track. We went 7-6 last year and now everybody expecting a national championship. I get that we should be 4-1 right now but 7-5 is not a bad record. Get over this notion that it's been on coaching. It's been on the players. Our middle linebacker play is garbage that's why our defense is bad. Our offense start slowing down in the second half. It's all on players. We don't have a defenses to win the game for us. Oklahoma can be put on coaching but these past 3 loses all on players. Give it time we will be where we need to be soon. Just shut up and support the vols or go change your team like every other fake fan.

Probably happens at a lot of FBS schools. However, I always kinda had a weird feeling that maybe Butch was too good to be true. Always saying the right things and 2 top 5 classes. They ain't nobody that perfect (except for Richt.) I thought down the road we would find out he was cheating, but maybe we'll find out something different ala Dooley. That is if any of this is true.

He should've kept Cheney and the O-Line coach. He has really a low quality D-Coordinator but we haven't had a decent D-Coordinator in forever (maybe Wilcox).

Butch has got the special teams looking great. He's a great recruiter. If he had good coordinators and let them do their thing, I think he could've been good.

I say we beg Coach Cutcliff to be our HC and have him beg Chief to come back. Look at the years we had Cut and Chief together. We were incredible!

I think we have some real talent on this team. Butch should get credit for that. We are competitive and some of these kids have outstanding potential. They just aren't getting coached up and put in a position tow win.
