Butch Jones Crashes App St Post-Game Huddle

So this thread has devolved into four camps:

-- Those who think Butch did a good thing, but in the wrong way.
-- Those who think Butch did a good thing, and how he did it isn't important.
-- Those who are slobbering all over themselves in fury that Butch isn't fired yet.
-- Those who are slobbering all over themselves in fury that anyone could point out a mistake by Butch.

I have plenty of room to disagree amicably with the folks in group 2. But all the heavy breathers in groups 3 and 4 have turned this into a mud-slinging pit. Shame on them.

I'm still where I started out: What Butch did was good, and why he did it was good. How he did it, that was maladroit, coulda been done better.

I think he came over to say good job and one of the players said shut up ur terrible. That's when butch started pointing the finger and said be nice because I'll be your nutrition and sleep coach this time next year

And, and, and, then he said well you suck, so there...

I saw good and bad in it.

On the plus side: nice show of respect by Butch.

On the minus side: he seemed uninvited by the ASU coach (guy seemed surprised, more than anything), and you generally don't barge into a peer's meeting without permission. Plus, his body language was wrong; too much pointing of his finger at them. I'm sure his words were complimentary, but his body language was aggressive.

On the whole, might have been better if he had walked up to the coach and quietly asked if it would be okay to address the fellows first. Then keep his hands down to his sides.

As a spur of the moment thing, it was clearly well-intentioned, but not well-considered.

That's how it seemed to me, anyway.

Pretty much how I saw it. My wife didn't seem to think much of it but I said he should ha e at least tapped the App St coach on the shoulder and ask to say something real quick.

His heart was in the right place though.

Play by play of the "video"

Butch assaults Satterfield by tossing him aside.
Butch then points and laughs at select players
Butch assaults O lineman like the past

And the ENDLESS self-justification NEVER ENDS....the ONLY maladroit thing about it is your opinion about how Butch failed....and could of --and by your estimation--should have done it in a better way....

Your name must be HILLARY.....:salute:

And I have been plenty critical of CBJ for some decisions he has made during games and for his poor game-planning before some games....

However--that was pure passionate Butch in congratulating Appy State...I'm proud of him, finger-pointing and all...... GO VOLS! :salute:

Apparently opposing fan bases think it was a bush league move.

It's just more of the "high Cheese factor" we continue to see from Butch. Butch Jones thinks he has the gravitas of a Saban/Meyer, he appears to think he belongs on some Mt Rushmore of coaching, when in reality, most aren't even sure he'll be at UT in 2 more years. When Nick Saban or Urban Meyer step into your team meeting and have some complimentary words, you listen. When Butch Jones steps in your huddle, you think "get lost dude, we're trying to have a meeting here."

Here's an idea: subscribe to the FIDO philosophy like I do. OMG, Butch talked to the opposing players?? Big deal. **** It, Drive On. It's in the past, and nothing anyone in here says is gonna change it, so what the **** does it matter??

But God forbid some of y'all don't have SOMETHING to **** and moan about, right??

Yeah but we're not taking about championships. We're talking about morals, qualities, and characteristics of a coach. Saban and miles are both complete pricks. I'd rather have a respectful coach than a dick head

Is it championships and. winning the goal?

If we blew them out you wouldn't care. But because we looked horrible and you're mad at Butch you are looking for anything you can find to pile on. It's weak.

This right here sums it up. It actually describes what goes on in most threads.

That may be true for some here, but it's not for me.

US Army runs major training exercises for large units all the time. Every action each subordinate unit makes, every decision by each leader, is captured. From time to time, action is suspended for the umpires to bring units and leaders together. They talk through what went well and what didn't. Who made which decisions and why. We call it a "hotwash" (or more formally, an After Action Review, or AAR) in the Army. Pretty sure the Marines, Navy and Air Force do something similar.

And here's the thing: when you're a leader, and all your staff are sitting in the room, and you're talking frankly about your decisions, and why you made them, and what you could do better...and the umpires are also critiquing your decisions, frankly and constructively, you get over the whole criticizing thing. It's no longer a big deal to pat someone on the back at the same time as you tell them ways they can improve.

That's all some of us have been doing in this thread. Butch did a good thing; the "how" could've been better.

Those who are shocked that it's not a light switch, on or off, with no middle ground, and those who can't stand the sight of someone most of us like being criticized...I think those folks could use a little NTC/JRTC type of development. :)

This. Defending it only shows how delusional some of you are.

Ok...I'll take these "delusions" over troll logic anyday. Not calling you a troll...but you quoted one. His agenda is to slant the least little thing worst way possible. I know you're desperate to oust Butch and hire this unnamed messiah to deliver us. Going to bed with a goat means you wake up knowing you had sex with a goat...no win. :)

This... is why I love you. Excellent post.

But the goat was gentle, he just held me.

Your "how" theory is the problem.

What's the point of critiquing what a person does in the moment? As a society that's all we do anymore and it's ridiculous.

People sit back on social media and judge everyone's every move and say "how" they should have done things.

Grow up.

I wasn't talking about you JP. You bring good info and can see the whole picture. You're posts are some of the best I read on here whether I agree with them or not.(I do most of the time)
I am talking about the same bashing of coaches and players in every thread no matter the topic. It's the same ones that never give credit, just constant bashing saying the same thing over and over. Its ok to to say some negative stuff or not like what they do but at least recognize some of the positives.
Now about what you said about the how he did it. I have seen coaches at all levels do this at one time or another and when I have been around it,the coaches and players didn't mind it and appreciated it. It also looked liked they hadn't started really talking to the players yet and it happened before Satterfield started his speech. I may be wrong but that's what I saw and think. So the how to me wasn't in play.
