op asked if some of the breakdowns were blamed on noise. That still remains true.

That's how I took it. But why you don't make the easy read and move AK out of the backfield and see who lines up on him. LB-then he becomes number one guy.

So that's 28 1st down play calls: 14 in the first half, 12 in the second half, and 2 in overtime.

Breakdown:
-- 16 runs by the RB (usually Hurd, once Kamara)
-- 7 pass plays, 3 complete, 4 incomplete
-- 5 Dobbs keepers (2 of them sacks)...any or all of these plays might have been called pass plays that broke down*

So the ratio of 1st down calls seems to be roughly 2:1 run:pass. If most of those 5 QB keepers were intended as pass plays, could be almost to 1:1.



* might be able to tell by watching tape what the intent was for some of these 5. Don't have time to do that this morning, myself.

Because I don't have the time or the means can you tell me how many of those runs where "up the middle". Bc I think that's one thing that get s blown way out of proportion

Wonder what happened to playing all the freshmen that Butch said "would HAVE TO play"....literally didn't play one on either offense or defense.

Sure hope they keep their heads about them and play guys who can help. Doug Mathews said Sunday that we only played 33 players total vs App State, which he said was surprising and a very low number. Can't imagine that Taylor and Phillips aren't good enough to get a single snap in any game we play. Also hope Kamara gets to play on Saturday....could barely tell he was dressed out.

I watched Shy on the sideline during the game and he was itching to play. He was pumped up for sure. Definitely need him in there plugging the holes.

Thanks, BigDaddy.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time this morning to watch tape on all those plays and figure out which were intended to go through which gap. Plus, sometimes it's all but impossible to tell even watching tape...one lineman forgets his assignment and the whole blocking scheme gets thrown off. Can't just follow the RB, he's adjusting to opportunity as soon as he receives the handoff.

Probably just going to have to go with gut on this one: a LOT of the run plays were intended to go somewhere between the tackles.

I got the impression during the game that DeBord assumed we'd be able to dominate at the line of scrimmage, given our 50-pound advantage, and so the "vanilla playbook" he used was heavy on runs up the gut.

Could be wrong on that, of course, but that's how it felt watching the game.

that's a pretty lame comment/excuse. He's not some second-team freshman--he's our biggest playmaker! Does Jones include TERRIBLE play-calling among UT's "uncharacteristic mistakes"?

We ought to send Kamara out of the backfield and down the field a time or two each game and try to hit a big one with him if we can get him isolated on a LB/DB who might lack a bit of speed.

I remember Byrd having an awesome block to spring Hurd (I think) around the right side. It was in Freak's offensive plays video. I wasn't looking for anyone else. I think 3 others are listed on the participation report, special teams I assume.

The only way that scares me is if BG's quarterback and receiver show up for VT this year. Their execution in that game was off the charts but I do not expect that type of play from VT this game. We will not be taking anyone lightly this week..

You have to wait until the Bama game for the Receiver as he transferred there.

Would like to "like" this about 10 times. I don't see a lot of creative play-calling and if they are saving them for other games ok I guess but we won a game that we should have lost.
