The SEC east's 2 longest tenured coaches meet Saturday in Knoxville, but it's now UT that has more to lose in this showdown with Ky.....will Stoops have his team more prepared than Butch Jones?

A loss to Kentucky would not be that big of a shock. Especially given the injuries to our DL and JRM and possibly Sutton. The defense is pretty decimated right now.

So you think Butch gets a pass on this game if the Vols lose?

Depends. If Sutton and AK return then no he doesnt. But if we are missing OBrien, KMac, Tuttle, JRM, AK and Sutton then thats going to be tough to overcome. He wouldnt get a huge pass but one cannot argue that those are major injuries to key positions.

Getting a pass and being here next year are not the same thing.

Butch could take a dump on the 50 yard line at halftime and still be here next year...buyouts are bad things.

Jones is a volatile stock right now. I wouldn't buy long term. Hasn't shown much that he can perform consistently at a high level.

Next year...yes. Beyond that with a new AD...no idea.

I'm not saying this should happen. But, there will be a huge Big Orange meltdown if Butch loses to Kentucky. No matter the injury situation.

Some on here are not interested in recognizing the fact of how injuries, transfers and dismissals have decimated this team.

Having Danny O'Brien at DT given the situation would be huge. Having JRM, CS, JH, PW also would be big and most here refuse to recognize those facts.

I guess I should have added more words.

A "pass"? What do you mean by "pass". If he doesn't get a "pass" then what? Is this something like a "warning".

What do you mean by this is the "epitome of must win"? If he doesn't win, then what?

I feel like Kentucky is fighting for a bowl appearance as well so they will come in ready to play. If we sleep walk the first half we wont win, IMO easy as that.....

These kids better be ready to go and win out for a shot at SECCG

Fla is not guaranteed to lose to SCAR or LSU (im worried if LSU loses this week, they wont show up for the game against FLA, prolly rest Leonard) so our boi's better come out with a head on fire and be prepared for some physical ball

LSU has a stable of running backs.

They will beat Florida pretty badly.

We've won 31 of the last 32, UK last won in Neyland during Reagan's first term and we're still, despite DL losses, the much more talented and deeper team.

Despite the fact that this team is wildly inconsistent, has leadership issues and a coach who inspires anything but confidence on Saturdays, it would still be a shock to lose to Kentucky IMO.

Beating Kentucky is always a must-win, is it not? When should Kentucky ever be expected to beat Tennessee outside of a basketball arena?

Fairly confident Florida will lose now that the game is being played in Baton Rouge.

He shouldn't get a pass, but realistically he will. Fan expectations are very low these days.

Truth. Let's say we lose to Kentucky, finish 8-4, but still, somehow someway get to Atlanta but lose to Alabama in the SECCG.....if we win our bowl game and finish 9-5, a majority of our fans will say that we didn't take a step back, still won 9 games like last year and really did meet expectations based on our injuries.

A "pass" ?

Butch could lose the next 3 and will be here next year. Like it or not.
This is the truth and some people on VN need to come to grips with it. YOU HAVE A LAME DUCK AD. NOBODY IS GOING TO ALLOW THE FIRING OR HIRING OF A NEW FOOTBALL COACH AT UT WITH AN AD WHO HAS HIS FOOT OUT THE DOOR. GET OVER IT JUVENILES.
