So after the OK game quote on the 4th and 6 inches ["We do everything based on analytics, so nothing is taken by chance. Probably about four or five hours went into that single decision."], I wondered about the numbers behind that. What do the analytics say about that situation? So I did some simple research online, and then ordered a few books from Amazon. I have spent more than 5-6 hours looking at various data at different levels of football and research, far from being an expert. I cannot find anywhere that indicates that the field goal try is worth more points on average than going for the touchdown.

Maybe Butch Jones subscribes to some service that indicates statistically that was the way to go. Can anyone find anything to back up his assertion?

I bring this up because I find the whole "discussed with coaching staff about 2 point conversion before the drive..blah defense playing well blah" particularly spurious and suspect.

Not in favor of firing the guy, just want some sound reasoning.

It is what it is. Another thread and Pages of the same argument from disgruntled fans isn't going to change it.

One of those threads had a/the chart.
It was real, just not the right call in the exact moment imo.

It is right below the "kick the extra point instead of going for 2" double down on stupid.

Butch tries to fake his coaching abilities with big words the thing is this conference will expose every weakness you have as a coach. And Jones's weaknesses are clear now, the blue print is out on how to beat Tennessee and even Derek Mason is foaming at the mouth for a chance to save his job in November by beating Tennessee.

Butch Jones is a liar. Bottom line. There is no chart that says go for 1 in that scenario. He is either a complete idiot or a liar. Either way, he and Dave Hart should have been left in Paynes Prairie Swamp outside of Gainesville.
