Did anybody really see this coming? I want to be honest, I didnt. When he was hired I had never heard of him and thought Hart cheaped out and screwed us. Now I am not saying he is the greatest coach or anything but IMO he has proven that he has the program moving in the right direction.

He has made plenty of mistakes this season, but he helped get us to a 9 win season. Great job Butch!

I gotta admit, I was being a Nega after those losses early on. What Butch did to rally the team and keep them focused and firing on all cylinders at the end was the sign of a great football coach. If he makes a few tweaks, he will be coaching for a NC in the future.

What I really loved was seeing a coaching staff with a different mentality. Didn't try to sit on a lead. Was attack, attack, attack. Even more, 4th and 1 done inside the 10, and did not settle for a FG, but went for it, got the first down, then a TD. Felt that decision was s big learning curve and showed a different decision process than was being made earlier in the year.

Loved every bit of the game.

I think he's doing a great job.

The thing that bothers me is, in bowl games he plays to win. In regular season he plays not to lose! Am I crazy or does this seem the case?

Patience Grasshopper. The mark of a good man is that he knows it's never to late to learn.

Did anybody else think it was a little odd that Butch didn't get a Gatorade bath after the game ? At least I never saw one ?

Any thought that his coaching skills are enhanced and deepened with each SEC game?

Not sure that's the case. I think he's still growing as a coach. His ceiling may very well be elite status, but he's not there yet. I believe he learned some things since arriving in the SEC and learned some things in this season specifically. He is growing as our program is being rebuilt. He coached the Bama game much differently than he coached the OK & FL games. The roster grew and developed throughout the year, but the coaching did as well.

I think they got him just not on camera. Notice the towel over his head in the post-game interview. Think he dried up a bit before the interview.

Season coaching could have been better but the truth is, we still had a shot to win in most games but failed to execute.
That will never be admitted by some here but missing fg's etc... means a lot.
This team has done a lot of growing this year and seem ready to execute the win.

I'm happy with our progress and some will never be. Just the way it is. With social media they just appear to be more than they are - constant complainers.

Or, its possible that the two bowl opponents have been less talented than any SEC team we've faced?

Honestly this NW team looked about as talented as Kentucky. Just goes to show how overrated the B10 is as a whole. Even in a down year for the SEC east, supposedly one of the weakest P5 divisions in college football (laugh), we destroy a B10 team with ease - again.

I don't think he had confidence in the offense early in the year, he held OU to 3 points thru 3 quarters and UF to 14 points. The formula had worked to that point. One tackle on 3rd down or 4th down vs both teams and we are looking at an 11 win season. I think he started to trust the offense through the year and got more aggressive. I think CBJ is aggressive by nature and wants to play that way but he thought it was smarter earlier in the year to rely on the defense. We can all play MMQB and say it didn't work out, but if one player makes a tackle on Baker Mayfield, we beat OU. Has he made some questionable calls like the 2 OT conversion, yes. But I think the coaching staff,as a whole, learned from their mistakes and I don't anticipate the same problems next year

Your eyes match the data.

My initial statement was rhetorical.

They are demonstrably less talented than Kentucky and Vanderbilt, who bring up the tail of the SEC.

There are only two B1G teams who recruit in the top 25, Michigan and Ohio State.
