I'm a stickler for analogies, and there's one going on right now that I just can't abide. I'm talking about calling this situation as a cancer. Cancer is a horrendous disease that has effected most of us. I don't even want to go there. I would liken this situation to an infection by botfly. A botfly is a nasty parasite - a larval creature that grows under the skin of the host until it matures and erupts through the tissue it has destroyed. As a young adult, it flies away and continues its glorious life cycle (to include laying more of its botfly eggs). Unlike cancer, it is not the botfly's intention to destroy the host. That would be counter-productive and the botfly is not capable of avarice (not that cancer is, but I liked using the word). (Sidebar- squirrel hunters might not take squirrels until a good hard frost for fear of "the wolves"). Long and short, a vet would recommend taking a set of forceps and pulling that larvae right out of that wound. A good dash of Blue Mule, and you're off to healing. A little sore, but, no long term harm done.
The kind of teammate that probably stood up to the coaches when noone else would and told butch the line was garbage the system was crap and everyones tired of running plays that everyone in the world knows are coming.
Todays presser was all about Butch sending the message that he will get rid of eveyone that thinks he should fire his dear dear friends Debord and Mahoney.
All I have to say is if not for Hurd we would be 4-4 right now with a loss to Appy St. Wish him nothing but the best because he has made significant contributions and recruiting a lot of people on the team but kinda wish he would've stuck it out. Will probably look bad on him when he enters the draft. I completely understand if he left because of broken promises but if he left because he was in the doghouse or whatever with Butch he should've worked it out. Seems like Butch may not have really tried to keep him though and not upset at all. Butch's way or the highway.
I'll preface this with JMHO.
Going back to the GA game when JH got injured in the 1st half but didn't show signs until the 2nd half that's when things started to turn for JH, coaches and the team. If I recall he went in on the GA kick off at the end of the game on his own. He is on the left side of the field on the kick return. After the game it's unclear what's wrong with him, early reports were leg, then abdominal, then head. It was pretty obvious on the fumble catch in the end zone in the 1st half when he got freaking lit up that he was hurt. Nothing has been the same since. Kamara blew up in the A&M game and I think JH got butt hurt by that. JK did a great job as well and has been consistent ever since. On the other hand JH has had serious problems running the ball or even getting to play. I'll even go as far and say he got hurt again in the USC game on the run to the right where he cut straight up the field. Never played again after that.
This to me is what has led to all of this.
I wish him well. He was never in trouble to my knowledge and played his arse off most of the time while here. He is finishing his career in the top 10 all time at UT on 2.5 seasons of play. Pretty dang impressive. Best wishes and good luck in the draft.

He will have to sit a year unless he graduates firstSorry if this has already been asked and answered...
When Hurd transfers will he be required to sit out one year? It's my understanding that that's the rule unless he qualifies for some kind of special exemption or drops down to a D2 or D3 level school. A friend of mine keeps telling me that I'm wrong about this, but that's my understanding.
I think this post is right on the mark.:good!:This morning, I was thinking about everything that has happened over the past 72 hours (and really the whole season). After setting all the drama nonsense aside and getting objective about Hurd leaving, I really do not think I can criticize his frustration with his role in the offense or his decision to leave, albeit the timing is not the best.
Why do you have a 6'4" 240 lb. running back that ran for 2,100+ yards in his first two years at the school receiving handoffs that force him to start running east-west before he can get a head of steam going north-south? I hate to go there, but... when Derrick Henry was running for the Heisman last year, do you think Saban had him trying to take the edge and get outside? The answer to that question would be "no." In case you were wondering, he is listed as 6'3" 247 lbs.
I think CBJ really screwed the pooch on this. He did not need to make major adjustments to his offense. He could have simply lined Dobbs and Hurd up in the pistol to get Hurd started north-south from the snap of the ball. That would have given Hurd the opportunity to do what he is good at--bowling over defensive players like a bad habit.
[Note: I am completely ignoring DeBord's role in this because I think he is an incompetent coach who brings no value to this team. I thought that when we hired him and he has done nothing to disprove that in two years. His claim to fame when he joined the staff was that he was Tom Brady's offensive coordinator, which, in reality means that he was the genius who platooned one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time with Drew Henson.]
