I am ecstatic that we won the game and I had said that even if we lost we should not fire Butch. Having said that- I put the Georgia under the heading "you cant lose all the close games" Sometimes you play a team that makes more mistakes than you do- Ex- the Dawgs. That doesn't mean Butch has become a master of game management. he hasn't. The man can recruit and he kept the tone positive even after the 3 losses, but lets not puthim in the College Hall of Fame just yet; there is a lot of football to be played. Still - things are better than they were even a week ago ( not exactly great) but a lot better- 8-4 is a real possibility and I would take it right now. No more bonehead decisions by Jones this year and he may have a long tenure at UT. Time will tell.

We didn't make less mistakes than Georgia, we made more mistakes than Georgia and played well enough to overcome them. UT beat UGA in about every category.

OP isn't wrong. Jones is still only winning about a 1/3 of his games decided by 8 points or less. While a step in the right direction, he needs to continue to approach game management and strategy with greater aggression. Any time he lapses back into the "coach not to lose" state... he'll struggle.

Who has said that Butch is now a game management master and should be in the college football hall of fame?

The Georgia game was huge but it isnt the tell all performance for this coaching staff. I'm pretty sure that 80% of this website is smart enough to understand that.

I'll go with 7-5. A pretty likely loss at Bama and probably a screw up somewhere--KY or MO. Win the Belk Bowl, we'll close out at 8-5. Sets us up for bigger things next year.

This is also true. UT moved the ball better than UGA early too. There were 3 missed opportunities for INT's during the game that would have either taken points off the board for UGA or put them on for UT. Their first score was a gift. I still believe UT got hosed on the punt return. It could have very easily been a 41-10 type of win for the Vols. They got most of the bad calls and bad breaks.

Aggressive coaching and play can overcome a lot of bad breaks.

I will stick with what I've said since spring. This is an 8+ regular season roster. If Jones cannot do that then it is very unlikely he is a good enough coach to compete for a championship next year.

Battered Vol syndrome at its finest...Enjoy the win and quit conditioning yourself for future disappointment.... damn.

I wish we were in contention for the east title, but there are still things CBJ has done well. We are ahead of where we were last year in almost every offensive category. The kick off, punt, and return parts of out game are the best I've seen in years. We also have a solid chance at a better record than last year. All that being said I'm not satisfied with the over all performance this year. However with a solid off season and recruiting class the east is in reach next year.

The real test comes when Dobbs leaves and it's time to retool the offense. That's when we'll really know if CBJ will stick around.

If he can have consistent top 5 recruiting classes and get good coaching from his staff (mainly coordinators) he can really be successful. We are seeing a lot more of "Butch Stones" and I think he is realizing what it takes to win in the SEC against the better opponents. He has also talked a lot about developing a full roster and the value of experience and maturity in the SEC. Imagine what Shy and Kahlil will be like their junior and senior years if they haven't already left for the NFL.

Well let's hope he gets your approval to return next year. *eye roll*

Can we not just enjoy a pre-Alabama bye week following a fantastic come from behind win over a very good division rival at home before an enthusiastic full house with several top tier recruits present and take a break from the never ending Butch second guessing and bashing? Go to the beach for Fall break and come back refreshed to rip the coaching staff through Thanksgiving.
