Butch is Phil...

Undefeated in 1998 isn't much stumbling into things. Overcoming challenges to win because we never quit is more like it.

If butch had cutcliffe or even jim Chaney right now they would be undefeated imo. We don't, so we gotta learn to win with what we have. Saturday will tell us if the players are still all in.

So far I have seen mentioned as backed into a championship:
Fulmer- 152-52 Natty 2 sec champs, multiple sec east champs CFB HOF
Chizik- Fantastic DC (should have been ours) 1 natty
Switzer- 3 nattys and a super bowl (really?) OC who introduced the wishbone to OK
Seifert- 2 time super bowl champs .649 winning percentage

Man you guys need to get off the bong. Just 'cause you don't like them doesn't mean they were not good at their jobs. Another trait they all had? They could coach the X's and O's

Fulmer was a great head coach. We layed everything we had on the line for him. We faced a lot of talented teams, you win some you lose some. The SEC at that time was unreal.

Yep. If somethings dont change pretty quick the trust that really matters in this situation will go south.

Comparing CBJ to CPF is the definition of insanity  and here is why:

CPF first 3 full seasons W-L as HC:
1993: 9-2
1994: 8-4
1995: 11-1

CBJ first 3 seasons:
2013: 5-7
2014: 7-6
2015: 2-2

So Phil lost as many games in his first 3 years combined as Butch lost just in his first year!
Also, Phil lost fewer games in his full third year than Butch already lost before end of September in his third year.

But, you can't make that comparison. Phil inherited a team that was already loaded for bear....When Butch came along, the well was bone dry.

The well was not dry. Butch inherited the NFL oline and if he was smart could have kept the NFL caliber OC and Oline coach instead of replacing them with the best bearcat staff in America.

At least Fulmer didn't run some Tx high school style offense. Butch will never win big with this offense.

Phil took over a power house team that had won 2 of the last 3 SEC Championship

Butch took over a dumpster fire.

You cannot compare two very different circumstances.

Except for inheriting an O-line that all played in the NFL (to name a few)....

That is true. That line, his offensive scheme, and lack of a quarterback with running skills, didn't all jell. I will concede that point.

I can't remember..did we have any Vols drafted by the NFL in the most recent draft?

As evidence of such, can you imagine Peyton going to Debord's place after his neck surgery to get his throwing motion/footwork/timing down (as he did with Cutcliff)? Didn't think so.

I had to give you a like for Cutcliff but can I beg you to please NEVER AGAIN put Peyton in the same sentence with our current OC? Isn't it enough torture having to watch the type of offense they are running in the house that Cutcliff & Peyton built?

Debord can't hold a candle to Cut. Butch should find his version of Cut, but I'm betting he won't. He's not about to bring in talent.

Compared to what Phil took over, yes the well was very dry for Butch.
Add to that Phil did not bring a new staff in. He wisely kept the excellent hires that Majors made. Taking over a very relevant team, not having to bring in new staff, just shuffle the positions around, staff up to date on players, players use to coaches, recruiting remained in place. Phil fell into a gravy train.

Phil would beat Jones with any team.

And I was fully supportive of Phil being fired when he was.

There is no comparison between Butch and Phil. Phil has a resume that speaks for itself and Butch would have to show much more than what he has to even be considered on Phil's level. I really miss Fulmer and Tennessee football lost that kind of magic when he was fired. I think Clawson also gets a lot of unwarranted criticism as well. His offensive philosophy is very complex, and the administration didn't give Fulmer or Clawson time to implement it. Remember, Phil had a top five class the year he was fired, which of course fell apart when Kiffin came in. I think Fulmer would have had a really good following season if he wasn't unjustly let go. Mike Hamilton could have somewhat made up for the disastrous Fulmer debacle by hiring Cutcliffe, but instead went with a coach who previously was shown to be very immature and highly unreliable. The fact he jumped ship to USC was no surprise to me whatsoever. Here we are, almost ten years later and the dumpster fire that is UT football continues to burn brightly..

Butch can't hold phils jock strap. What the hell? Butch is literally 10 times as conservative as Phil and that's saying something. And why would you say all Saban does is out talent people? That no where near true. Bama continually attacks even when they have a big lead. They also make adjustments well. Butch has twice now tried to salt away a game by running straight into 9 man fronts. In that same situation Saban would absolutely throw the ball down the field.
