It's a wimpy decision to kick. Even QB under center could have got that more times than not

Thanks a load.....I was starting to feel better about the loss until I saw that shot of where the ball was. HOLY FREAKING COW....now I feel like **** again. :ill_h4h:
I'm going to write a very different first post than I was yesterday in my anger. I was going to only rail about the horrible FG call (came right at my seat, he only made it by about 6 inches BTW. I think it would have been better had he missed it, so such a call wouldn't be made the next time and we maybe get a safety). :furious3: Then I was going to go after the cheating refs (crap interference call, and the very next play a no-call on the false start by OU's right side). :censored: It was a long drive home with my OU-loving companion.
Since I had to go through the process of registering, which took a while, I was able to step back and think. There's still no excuse for the FG call, the strategy of "Prevent Offense" throughout the second half (in Japan, the stain of such playcalling could only be corrected by seppuku), or the crack-smoking Line Judge. But these things happen all the time, at least 3-4 bad calls against us were reversed. And, they still weren't as bad as the Gaffney "touchdown" or Alabama's QB completing a pass after being tackled.
After the FG was kicked, I turned to my OU friend and congratulated him on the win. I told him that a team that makes that call doesn't win big games, and doesn't deserve to win. So I guess it was fate.
Then I thought about another team that blew a game at home early last season, on the very day I was in Norman watching our boys take on OU there (I watched it while eating at the outstanding KD's Restaurant before going to watch UT/OU). As it turns out, Ohio State had a decent season despite that.
GBO!:superman:
What's worse is how did he not get irate with the officials for spotting the ball a full yard back from where the ball was when Wolf's elbow hit the grass?no coach in the country with Hurd would kick it there....except Jones
He had better start PLAYING those 5* defensive recruits, because otherwise, this team is no different whatsoever than the team that went 7-6 last year. Janzek has a REALLY bad habit of leaving the starters on the field WAY, WAY too much. One day another coach will win us 11 games with players Butch recruited.
However Butch never will.

Even he admitted as much, after last season. Problem is, we have this new infusion of talent to give us some quality depth AND HE IS TOO DAMN SKEERED TO PLAY THEM!!!
IMHO....THAT is what got us beat. The DL was gassed in the 4th Qtr.
Shy and Kmac were getting rotated in and out. The issue is, who are you going to sub in when Cam needs a breather? What about Randolph? Truth is, our depth still blows. That's not Butch's fault nor Jancek's. IMO, McDowell, KMac, Martin, Berry, when TKJR is healthy, Weatherd, and Mixon are our subs. IMO, we should move JRM to the middle and put McDowell at WLB. Not an ideal situation, but Jumper doesn't need to be on the field. If Jancek isn't ready to play Kirkland, than we should move JRM to the middle for the time being.
We alread run 3 DL and a hybrid most plays. Now, if Maggit isn't back by the FL game, these hybrid packages where we play 2-3 down lineman will be hard to do unless a freshman plays. No Maggit means Kyle/Sapp/Smith/Bates has to step in and play. I expect to see a lot more Veeren and Weatherd in the coming weeks if Maggit isn't healthy. I also believe McDowell is going to get a lot of playing time, along with one other LB/DE that's hasnt played many snaps so far.
I watched closely and Tuttle got some periodic reps, but it was always 1 or 2 plays, tops, and neither of them got subbed in late in the 3rd, into the 4th Qtr, when we needed that depth, the most. KMac and Tuttle were 2 EVERYBODY was counting on being a critical part of the DT rotation, and thus far...they have not.
So, IMHO, we have mostly last year's roster and we will have to wait until next year before our 5* recruits get any real meaningful time. Kirkland should have started the OU game and only if he proved he couldn't handle it, should Jumper have come in.
What Jumper did with those 2 holding calls was like a RB fumbling the ball twice. You don't leave a player like that in the game after such a screw up. Maybe later on, but you take them out of the game after screwing up that badly
IMO, there is simply no way to justify the field goal. Even if we don't make the TD, OU has to go over 99 yds and our Defense was still fresh at the point. And with the crowd noise in their own end zone to boot. Odds say go for it and Butch simply blew it.
Regarding #1, I guess using the TE who caught two TD passes the week prior never occurred to the staff either.
These guys seriously just can't get out of their own way with some of this stuff.
I was thinking the exact same thing. The field goal told me Butch was content playing not to lose, rather than going for the jugular.I agree. When he kicked the 3 instead of using his 240 RB, it gave me a bad feeling on how they was going to coach this game. I loved Fulmer when he was here, but he never could learn that you cant beat good teams kicking field goals and sitting on leads. It seems like Butch would had learned that last season in the Florida game. I couldnt belive how vanilla the play calling got after we went up 17. I told my wife that its starting to look like hes wanting to sit on this lead and hope the clock runs out. Anyone who knows FB could tell the offensive scheme changed dramaticly after we took the lead. Any coach is not going to be very successful if hes coaching not to lose, instead of coaching to win.
