Butch Has My Support

NFL people are really high on Butch and his skills...

Just ask him.

Tons of coaches call and text lyle each week to see how they can also lose to teams as mediocre (or bad) as South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Lol yeah, once a team thought filled with 1st round picks. We will see how the draft works out, but as of know nearly the top teir players draft stock has slide.

If "lots of nfl guys are high on Butch" we would be headed to the nfl. Our tean as a whole fails to execute basic fundamentals of football on a consistent basis. Stop fooling yourself with what you hear people saying. Watch the product on the field. Even my wife pointed it out this year, when she notices, you know it's bad.

It's time to rally behind Butch and let him make strong staff changes and get this thing in the right direction.

Every successful coach routinely makes high level staff changes. Look at Meyer, Saban, Harbaugh, etc. They have new coordinators almost yearly.

But they usually show improvement after doing so. Our defense did not.

I still support him, but if we don't win at least 10 of 12 in the regular season next year, I'll be out.

Be prepared to be out! Unless Dormandy or JG are the second coming of Peyton Manning. We lose some fire power next year and if we lack depth this year, honestly we're going to lack it next year.

According to Botch though we lack depth every year and it takes 10 years to build a program capable of winning.

What exactly does it mean for an everyday fan to "support" a coach? No criticism? Positive thoughts? Hope?

If I had my way, Tennessee would win them all, but I felt the same way when Dooley was here, and Kiffen, CPF, CJM, etc. I was born into orange blood and raised up a Vol. I am an allum. My wife is an allum, and there are countless more in our families. I would never, ever want anything but success for the program and the university.

But, most people have instincts and opinions about most things. That's not unreasonable. That fact that I have observed CBJ's work over the last four years and concluded that he is not capable of elevating the team any higher and believe that he's underachieving doesn't compromise my fandom in any way. Does this mean he's lost my "support?"

I understand that you see it differently. Maybe you think he can elevate the program to the next level. Maybe you're content as is. That's your right. But, there are plenty of fair and reasonable people who see it as I see it, and the number is growing.

Butch is right on pace for UT football right? Looks like we average right at 7 wins per year since 1891

It's a joke. There's a reason Butch is a national laughing stock.

It's pretty well known he's not much on developing talent. Hell look at the crazy amount of bust that we've had, and the guys that have transferred out that have gone on to do way better.

That's why he's had a short shelf life at all of his stops. The sad part for him and us, he's reached his ceiling and we either fire him or he has to swallow his pride and take a lower job.

We didn't get serious about football to the General was here. That's the starting point that I'd look at for a time line.

The team played fewer games per season for much of that history.

If we expanded the season to a 16-game NFL load, it would increase the chances of winning 9-10 games a year. Unless we had to play four more teams from the SEC W, then maybe not.

The problem with "historical averages" is that they include a bunch of fired coaches.

Tennessee averaged just over 5 wins per year from 2010-12. So, anything 6-6 or better is great, right? (The scary thing is, there are probably some here that think this.) Or, is our average artificially low because we hired a sh*tty coach that we fired?

If you think Butch is the answer, he sure as hell be better than our "average."

Yea I get all of that but just doing a general average we win 6.7 games per year. Bama same average comes out to like 8 games per year.

Butch looks or has looked so much better because look who we all compare him to....Dooley that's who. Yes we have got to bowl games, and looked better but Butch is not a National Championship coach he just isnt. His little charted system won't work year in and year out in this league. FL, GA, SC, Mizzou will all improve where will we be then year in and out. I think it is a fact that this year or next butch will be gone.

I don't know if Butch has really looked better. It's just that he's coming off of the worst coaching hire in Tennessee's modern football history.

A guy that tried to quit and take a lesser buy after the KY lost, and Hart and all of his wisdom talked him out of it.

All while the mouth breathing portion of our fan base calls for stability. I guess we have it, since we just now finished paying Dooley off this month. Next looks to be Butch.

He has made many staff changes in the FOUR years he has been here and things seem to be getting worse,
So maybe it time for Some one higher up to make a staff change, like hire a new head coach

Has he though? The only real moves he made were to fire the S&C coach and Jancek. Elder and Bajakian both left for higher positions on their own (Bajakian for the NFL and Elder to be a Head coach).

Martinez, Azzani, Thigpen, Stripling and Mahoney have been here since the beginning and most of them if not all are underperforming. The only real positional coaching change he made was to get rid of Jancek for Shoop. Unless I am missing somebody?

Im not on Butch's bandwagon at all. I think he failed miserably this year, but he isn't going anywhere this year. He has to make changes. Time to see how stubborn he really is. Hire some proven coaches and give up some control and he may survive for a little while.. if he keeps this crop of coaches he will be gone next year.

Whether they left or got fired doesn't matter, HE had brought in new people.

And the problems related to coaching are not new this year, they have been here as long as he has, so if it's the assistant coaches he should have recognized the problem and made more changes, but he didn't and hasn't ,so I have no reason to believe he will.
