So called true fans gave up on Fulmer so I laugh at this long term support crap. Dude, Butchy is not the answer and never was.

OP--

You will get your wish and Butch will not be fired. It is unfortunate that Tennessee has not learned from its past mistakes of keeping a coach around 1 season too long.

I am sad for our team, but glad that so many have had their eyes finally opened to the true ability limit our coach has.

LMAO. So... You suggest that folks should "grow a pair and demand excellence". That's your solution to our 9-4 season?

Care to enlighten "idiotic" fans like me and expand on just exactly what specific actions "demanding excellence" entail?

So what do propose? Fire Butch? Then what? Who do you hire as a replacement? Who is the new staff that is going to both out-recruit and out-coach Butch and company?

Honest question: were you born with a learning disorder or did a transmission fall on your head or something?

We haven't won 9 games.
We had the talent to win 11.
Coaching is the difference.
You aren't good at objective analysis.
You support a carpet bagging millionaire before the institution.

Game. Set. Match.

Some of us feel running down our football coach in public is the same as running down our university.

Some are going to hope he wins every game as long as he's the coach at UT.

Do I "think" he will win championships?
No, not likely.
Am I going to pull for him to lose ballgames because of it?
Nope.
Am I going to continue to point out his shortcomings relentlessly as if that will change anything?
Nope.

I can only speak for myself but just because I don't join in mob mentality, doesn't mean I'm stupid.
(I know you weren't talking to me but the point remains)

You have my support to GTFO. Your likely the type that always throws the baby out with the bathwater. Reasonable arguments can be made for retaining Butch and some for moving on.

Reasonable arguments can be made to make a change as well. Its not beyond the realm of possibility to appreciate what he has done but also to see that the team is not being coached very well. You dont need alot of football knowledge to see that our player consistently fail to execute basic fundamentals. When my wife ask what they were doing during a game, you know it's bad but she still supports Butch. She also will continue to spend money at a business for a service she doesnt use because she doesnt want to hurt the workers feelings.

You've been full of suggestions haven't you.

I've got three great solutions:
Fire butch last month.
Hire a coach committed to winning
Invite you to play on I-40

Tennessee would be a much better place, and with you and Lyle gone the collective IQ skyrockets.

Well, to be fair...

He is factually correct in saying we havent won 9 games.
He is also factually correct in saying we are not coached very well. I dont say that to bash anyone. I say it because our players at nearly every position group consistently fail to execute basic fundamentals.

What was this season's motto? "Own It"? I distinctly remember him speaking of "owning" the expectations preseason. He doesn't seem to be living by his own words.

What he meant was "own it" for about 4 minutes then go into hiding and leave his players to explain Vandy LOL

As a UT grad and diehard fan of 30 years, I've seen our ups and downs. I also have enough wisdom to know how the program works (the DC and OC make play calls, kiddo).

4 years ago, Butch Jones was our THIRD pick that we approached to become our HC. Gundy and Strong (recently fired by the other UT btw) said no thanks to us.

You should be kissing Butch's Lilly white a$$ for coming here and putting up with the moronic blather that folks like you spew on Volnation, junior.
Ok. The oc and D.C. Make the calls but it is up to Butch to evaluate that and even change in game calling. Tell them. Hey this ain't working do something else

A great leader surrounds himself (or herself) with great people.

Has Lyle done that? No.

So that means...

I've been a true fan since 1968, I was 6 years old when I seen my first UT game.
Walked on in 1980, didn't last, tore both knees....
I will support Butch...
I didn't support bozo Dooley, just something about his _ _ _ _ _ !!!!!

By all accounts, Butch still has the team on board. This season was rough... really rough. But, I think injuries were beyond the norm this year. Basically, we've been starting 3rd stringers at DT (which was already our weakest link), our LBs are 2nd string or injured, and the O Line has been a walking trauma unit.

Nobody wants to hear excuses. I'm with you. Losing to Vandy is horrific. BUT, I hope cooler heads will reign. Butch and his staff need our support, not infighting and second guessing.

Look at LONG TERM successful programs... their fanbases understand ups and downs, and their coaching staffs are steady (Pittsburg Steelers now on 3rd Head Coach... in the past 47 years).

The generation of immediate gratification needs to take a seat and shut the f up.

True Vol fans get this.

The 3rd and 4th team players at UT are still good enough to start at MAC and Sun Belt schools. You don't see small schools like that giving up 700+ yards a game. Injuries aren't the only problem.

So maybe it isn't instant gratification, but instead identifying the additional variables that contributed to the dismal end to the season.

I still support him, but if we don't win at least 10 of 12 in the regular season next year, I'll be out.

I support the team as a whole. Zero confidence Butch gets it done in the coming year/s. There have been four years of mistakes of which folks like to explain away for many reasons. For me, it starts at the top and ends at the top when the trend goes beyond one year.

No, own it is just a motto, noone is actually supposed to be held to it.[/QUOTE

Gotcha.

I think I understand how this process works now under Jones.

1)Come up with nifty catch phrase for the huddled masses to consume and set championship game aspirations to start the season.

2) Insult media and fans by "explaining" football to them after lackluster performances and documenting blow ups in said media.

3) Secretly stroke lucky horseshoe that was wedged into nether regions for first half of season and give thanks for Florida being terrible on offense.

4)Get demolished by Bama and go into sullen teen girl mode.

5) Continue to document media and fan blow ups instead of correcting obvious locker room and on field issues.

6) Watch season implode after having an extra week to prepare to play a high school QB leading a rebuilding team.

7) Puff up and complain about not being appreciated enough for beating TN Tech, Missouri, and Kentucky as expectations continue to back slide.

8) Repeat #3 as Sugar Bowl is delivered on silver platter.

9) Watch season implode again as lucky horseshoe says to hell with it.

10)Go into WITSEC.

Perfectly reasonable statement which I tend to agree with. Notice how HidyHo makes this statement without sounding like a 5 year old.
