Butch has lost the team

Cancel the season :eek:lol:
The leaders on this team are not quitters.
Missing Sutton, JRM and Kamara hurt.
This team is beat up that's all.

You can't seriously believe this. This team's problems run much, much deeper than being "beat up".

5* Preston Williams leaves team in mid season, can't play again until 2018. PW was never reported as a "problem child." What message does this send? Internal meltdown is my read.

This is what happens when talented football players have to deal with Butch Jones's ego.

I don't think Butch has lost the whole team (he seems to still have guys like Dobbs, Barnett, etc.), but I do think he has lost a significant portion of it.

It is obvious that most of these players are not responding to the coaching. And they haven't all season. This SC game is not some new phenomenon. This team has underperformed since the opening kick against App State.

I suspect that there is something really rotten on the inside of this program right now.

The thing you said that stands out to me is "I Suspect that there is something really rotten on the inside of this program right now"! I have felt that way for several weeks. Do we have a player who's messing with the mojo? Is it coaching? I would love to hear from the perspective of a player without the media around!

We sucked vs Appy State with a full roster. We don't have good coaches. Period.

The offensive line, especially, the left side has been particularly offensive to Vol fans all season and it started with the Appy State game. It has been a struggle all season, and they have talent but it's certainly not being developed properly, and that falls directly at the feet of the of the line coach.

Hard to say, but you can just look at Justin Martin's body language and see he is one of the malcontents.

Young people tend to tune out authority figures when:
1. They see them as a fraud.
2. They don't believe the message.
3. They perceive favoritism.

I doubt it is #1, because I do think Butch is a decent human being. But, I can see it being # 2 or 3 very easily. And maybe deserved, maybe not.

They've played like crap all year long.. You would have thought they'd at least clean some of it up. Never happened. Maybe they're tired of playing in that crappy offensive system.

When the faces of the 4-star players change, but we keep getting substandard results,

And the faces of the coaches stay the same....

It is time to start looking at the coaches. You cannot keep claiming that every 4-star player you sign is a bust.

Did any of the coaches or players do any work at all during the off season and fall camp? Because it sure as he!! doesn't appear that way. These players were not prepared to play mentally or physically from Game 1. An epic fail by this staff.

These Olinemen were recruited by everyone. It's the system and these coaches.

This is definitely a witch hunt for Butch, but before you completely blame him ponder this... if take away the 3 turn overs and MULTIPLE bounced passes from our sub-par quarterback then we probably win by 17. Dobbs has played his heart out in his career and I am thankful for him... but he can't be a liability week in and week out.

You can't put this all on Dobbs. Since losing Elder, our special teams have become a liability consistently costing us tens of yards of field position. The errors that are so routinely made are so fundamental in nature, too.

Defense never wins a game for us when the offense is struggling, either. Berry gives us life with a TD return, and then D gives up a TD to push the lead back to 10.

This is a team-wide fail. And an epic fail by this coaching staff across every position group. Barnett is the only consistent performer we have. He needs to be celebrated as one of the all-time great players.

Yeah, you have seen a flash or 2 thru 8 games but all in all they have not played good consistent football very much.

Perhaps the two go hand in hand.

After watching Kelly in his limited carries, it sure looks like they're not giving the RB most capable the most chances.

Maybe the players feel like there's a lot of positions where the best player isn't playing. QB comes to mind.

You might be onto something. Of course, every backup thinks he is better than the starter, so it is a fine line.

If he hasn't lost Dobbs then it's only Bc Dobbs is only playing Bc of the "coach"

Barnett will play hard all season to keep his extremely high draft status more than he's playing for his "coach"

I think Kelly has shown he is a very good back. This year Hurd reminds me alot of Marlin Lane his Sr year. Their stats are similar about 3.5 yards a carry.

You can't put this all on Dobbs.

Yeah, I think I saw a 49 yd Dobbs touchdown run called back for holding. And the holding was away from Dobbs' lane and totally unnecessary. Dobbs had a bad night, but you can't blame him for stupid mistakes by others.

I would like to believe you. But South Carolina almost lost to UMass. They had a reputation as a horrible running team and a horrible team against the run.

Yet we looked like an FCS team against them.

I'm over the excuses. Our offensive line has regressed. Our quarterback has regressed. Our receivers except for Jennings have regressed.

We need to face it. There is a problem that cliches, coachspeak and analytics won't fix.

I remember listening to sports talk the week before the Texas a&m game. I believe it was jimmy hyams that was saying folks better temper expectations he stated that those close to the program were aware of some major "warts" in the program. I took that to mean there were significant problems pertaining to players losing respect for Butch and his ego/coaching ability. Hyams thought there were some loses coming and he was correct. I'm sorry but one of the major parts of a coaches job is to motivate players and have them ready to play. Bama game our guys quit early and last night they never started. That's a very bad sign.

You could see it on his face at the end of the game that even he knew he lost the majority of this team. All he could do was smirk and clap his hands because he knew if he yelled most players would just laugh and mock him.
This team know Mahoney and Debord are a complete joke and they also know butch won't do anything to them.
Sorry but injuries on the D don't explain why the O is completely garbage and no one tries
