Butch has got to bring some balls with him

the play calling hasn't been the issue, overall. i don't like the run, run, run punt stuff either with the game on the line (and that doesn't mean i just want us to throw each down mind you....we can be creative in the run game, and or do some high % passes in those situations)...

but overall, the play calling has been pretty good game to game. i think players not executing (dropped passes, fumbles and penalties) have been the issue on offense, early in games, and our defenses inability to get off the field, not giving us more opportunities on offense.

i think for the most part, the coaching has been actually pretty good, save a few things that i just fundamentally don't like. personal preference. half time adjustments on defense have been really outstanding, special teams has been good again, even though we haven't had any big splash plays, we win the field position game most of the time.

i've been critical, but it's really only about a few things. all in all, i think they've done a really good job this year, if for no other reason, he's got these kids believing, and now they're delivering. at the end of the day, players are making plays, and they're being put in position to do it. it's translated to a 5-0 record this year.

just keep it going for as long as we can....

DeBord has been aggressive this year and Dobbs is really picking it up. I agree with you. Poor execution (drops) and mistakes (turnovers) are keeping our point totals from being even higher, and they are d@mn good anyhow.

The defense is the problem area because it is giving up way too many points. It was the long pass against Florida and then late against Georgia. And it was the run against Georgia. Shoop has to get this corrected.

Am I the only one who thinks Butch looks like Sgt. Carter from the Gomer Pyle show? It's a compliment, he was my favorite on-screen Marine other than Gunny Hartman and Animal Mother.

Good lord man! It's always the same crap with you OP. Please try some original thought. BTW even the coaches know we need to start better. But it's not play calling that we are having issue with.

Pretty much true. Hurd shows a little effort and it's a completely different ballgame

It's cliché but... Like butch says, the plays have been there. We aren't executing in the first half. On defense, we are BADLY missing Sutton and the others.

This weekend. We can't get behind 3 scores before we decide to throw the ball down the field or call designed qb runs for dobbs. And we can't punt from the 33 or just hand them the ball back late in the game with a chance to win. I'm pumped we are were we are but we have sooooooo much talent on this team. We should have never fallen so far behind Uga, or uf, or app state for that matter. We've got to play to win!

5 and 0. We are winning.

i actually think if you really go back and look, it's a testament to how good we really are. we've won inspite of ourselves, and when we truly go out and decide to dictate, more times than not we've been able to do it.

the trick now is how do we fool ourselves in to doing for a whole game? if we could get that figured out...sky's the limit.

we left at least 10 points on the field in the 1st half. there's no way that, at worst, it shouldn't have been 17-14 at the half.

Our leading receivers yesterday were Hurd and Kamara. We rarely through it down the field and gave our receivers a chance to make a play. DeBord is actually pretty damn conservative UNTIL we fall behind by 14, which happens every game. I can't imagine that we're going to keep winning like this--I mean, we benefited from a miracle play yesterday.

Another stupid thread on Vol Nation. Do you really think "lack of balls" has anything to do with our slow starts? I mean, really?

YES and YES.....I think 100% that is why. We start slow because we do conservative plays .... we don't play to win until we are behind in games. If we are ever in the lead we play to not lose-super conservative.

not really. Jennings had a bad drop in the 1st half, and i think Croom did too, iirc. there were several plays in the 1st half called for a pass, protection broke down and he had to run.

combine that with our not so good execution on 1st down, we got put in to predictable passing situations.

last week, we were VERY aggressive on play calling in the first half, just had 5 drops, and it became easier to defend obvious passing situations.

what happened from the middle of the 2nd thru the end of the 3rd qtr? we ran the ball more effectively, and when we did throw, we got completions. we moved the ball basically at will from the middle of the 2nd, thru really the middle, to end, of the 4th.

long story short, we have to find a way to be more productive on 1st down, so we can stay on schedule, and allow plays to develop. 3-4 plays and a punt 3-4 possessions in to the game will stifle most offenses, for a while. and as was the case, once we started, we got in a rhythm, and took off...

nah, according to some, i'm like the 1st lieutenant of the nega vols.:eek:lol:

No your not. You bring good discussion to the board. Look we are all watching the same game. We can see we are not perfect. But within 5 minutes of clock striking zero SOME people always start with the "Not good enough!" crap. It's old. It's very very old. Almost half a season old now. You are not one of those

I heard a rumor several of our best and possibly ALL SEC. Players have been on the injured list. Wonder if there is a cause/effect on that?

So glad you are not paid to coach our team

Are you glad you're a ====)? If I were the coach I would've been fired and put in jail for assault because with the way we have played in the 1st half of games I would've been so far up their ***** that I would've been beating the **** out of people. I would not have any patience to be a coach but all I was doing was making an objective statement. And I'm not trying to be a coach but we have to do something differently to keep us from getting down by 3 scores before we start putting points on the board. When we air it out good things have happened this year and that's a fact. Our running game as been less than spectacular this year.
