According to SDS through 2020. Sorry can't post links from phone. I'm glad.

$3.6M, 2-year extension, increased pool of assistant money.

Assistant money was the most important part of that deal, IMO. Retaining stability for the first time in years is so crucial.

Hart's officially gone all the way in on Jones, so let's hope it works out. Go Vols.

I have a feeling itll be worth every penny in the long run.

Looks like about a 20% raise and a two-year contract extension. That's quite significant (especially considering going 6-6 with no guarantee of ending with a winning season).

I'm a Butch Jones fan, and I think he's done a good job at UT (including a fantastic job recruiting), but I hope he ends up being a GREAT coach. Dave Hart is paying Butch as though he's certain he'll be a great coach at UT. I sure hope he's right!

Go Vols!!!

PS We REALLY need to win this bowl!

I think this is well deserved. Hope they are able to keep the key members of the staff on board.

Galls me to no end that we continue to pay that pecker head Dools!

So he's making more than Gary Pinkel who has won the SEC east 2 years in a row?

Hummmm........

I'm not saying keeping Butch is bad and I understand the need for stability and "recruiting pitch" to future players....but from a "performance and pay" perspective, it sounds very illogical.

Oh well, I hope those on VN will understand any criticism (perhaps severe) next season (especially for assistant coaches) if under-performance becomes reality.

Illogical as in continually berating a football program then claiming to support it?

Wonder if Jones gave them an ultimatum? The timing is a little fishy

Not trying to flame, please don't read this post in that manner, but what ultimatum could he have given him? "Give me more money or I quit and forfeit my salary and potential buyout money?" Unless he had another offer, which he didn't, he was in no place to give an ultimatum.

Hart and Jones just did the dance that most all ADs and HCs do at this time of year when the program is going in the right direction.....the HC gets his name out there for potential jobs he may or may not have interest in and the AD opens the checkbook for the coach and staff in an effort to retain them. IMHO, the timing is consistent with when this typically happens.

So, he has 5 more years guaranteed on his contract. That probably means in reality he wouldn't be terminated for at least 2 more years if everything fell apart. Probably one more year than he deserved but he's in the driver's seat right now.

P.S.-I was really glad to see Colorado State stick to their guns over the McElwain buyout.

Illogical only from a fan's perspective imo. Economically it makes plenty of sense. No matter what Pinkel does or accomplishes at Missouri, he's never gonna be able to have the financial impact and ability to generate revenue that Butch has at Tennessee, which more than justifies his salary. Just look at the increased ticket sales alone this year. Conservative estimates put that number $4 million or so. Just is what it is.
