I want to see Butch successful. I honestly do think he cares about this program but his loyalty for his assistants is what is going to cause him to be shoved out the door from Tennessee. I doubt it happens but he needs to clean house and start out fresh again. Let Debord, Mahoney, and Azzani go. They're just not getting the job done right and makes no sense to keep them around. Butch CAN be a good coach if he hires proven assistants whom he needs to let take control of things every once in a while. I've been a Butch supporter since from the beginning but his stubbornness is what's holding him back from becoming a great HC here. Otherwise, it's going to be another Les Miles situation all over again. A lot of people will disagree with me but what other options does he really have? It needs to happen ASAP.

We need to bring out the garbage truck full of cash and find the best OC/OL coaches out there. But something tells me Lyle wants a yes man.

To be really successful, he needs to admit his system isn't infallible, hire a good OC, and then let them run the offense. Take on more of a CEO role. Not sure his pride lets him do it but that is the quickest path to success.

This is why Butch needs an admin position

As much as it appears I hate him, I really dont. I hate his decisions and his coaching abilities. By all indications, he is a straight up man with great intentions. Hes been a great spokesman for the University and hes got the excitement back in UT Football

However, his abilities are limited as coach

Honestly at this point, is there any point? No legitimate assistant is going to come here knowing its probably going to be a one year shot. How many coaches have coached themselves off the hot seat other than Gus Bus this year? The tell tell sign is going to be how many assistants bail on their own come January. If they start jumping ship then look out!

The problem is whoever Butch brings in as OC will have to run the same Sh!tty system that Butch wants.

Changing his system is a MUST as well. That's why in my post, I said his stubbornness is what's going to get him fired.

This.... Why can't people figure this one out?

For a new OC to make a difference Butch will have to relinquish control of the offense...

Show of hands.. How many think he will be willing to do that?

I'm not sure I understand. Butch deserves to stay, but, the guys he hired, and who are under his charge should go? I think the common denominator is being missed here, Butch.

Butch does not deserve to stay. Everyone is tired of brick by brick. His job was to get to SEC Title game and he failed.

The problem is nobody will want to come be an assistant to a coach on the hot seat. That's why Dooley could only get a D line coach to be his Defensive coordinator and we saw how that turned out.

OP, this is a results based business with enormous salaries. He doesn't deserve anything. He needs to produce or go back to a lesser conference. If he want's to coach her, he will fire CMD, Fire Mahoney, and hire a true OC / QB Coach, OL Coach. If it was me, I'd do that today. At a minimum Mahoney would be gone and Debord coaching OL.

expectations to high from the start brings out the most craziest of fans because their lives suck and they can be figures on the interwebs

I think we all know how this is going to end for Butch..."The Handwriting is on the Wall" do we do it now or later?

As said above 2017 recruiting with a lame duck coach: will that be better than to eat the buyouts now?

Look at the top coaches:
Saban has how many former HC on his staff
Harbaugh has 10 assistants, 8 have NFL experience

IF Butch wants to succeed he need to cut bait!
I'd fire:
The Strength and Conditioning Coach
The OL Coach
The WR Coach
The OC

And bring in an up and coming OC or a NFL caliber OC/QB coach, get a decent OL coach and find a good WR coach that can turn our talented WR into dominant WR. Its pretty bad when you want Bajakian back cause he had some creative play calls. I'd also have to add more plays with different sets (I formation, 3 TE) to the play book to change up the D.

What if Butch wanted to replace one or more of them but cannot for some reason or other? Aren't these assistants under contract to the university too for specific terms?

Just asking. I don't know.

I can recall Coach Majors replacing assistants midseason, but times have changed I think. Are HC's able to do this anymore?
