Butch deserves NO Raise and NO extension

Why is that so hard to believe? Have you actually read some of the posts on this board? I mean there are people who take every chance they get to trash the coaches, the players and just about everything else about UT football. So no its not completely ludicrous to think there are some rickybobbys on this site who want UT football to fail. Although the ones that do are way to chicken**** to publicly admit it.
and some on here take every chance in the world to make excuses for the coach.I would dare to say a used car salesman loves to see some of you coming...

Only took playing one of the worst teams in FBS history to do it.

But it got done right? UT football has been terrible for a while. This coach has improved every single year and made us competitive again. I realize the "gotta have it now" folks want it overnight but that's not the way it was ever going to be. There was a reason so many "top tier" coaches said no thanks 3 years ago and 6 years ago when offered the job.

Loyalty...apparently highly underappreciated by some on VN

As I understand it. Butch was given an extension to 2020. No need to rush into giving another one yet. Give him 2-3 more years to prove another one is warranted. If CBJ uses it as a bargaining chip before that time, then he is not at his dream job and I would definitely call his bluff.

Why isn't this being talked about more.

He's contracted to 2020. He's basically underperformed with his team this year. It's improved over last year and over Stooley (of course) but 8-wins IS UNDERPERFORMANCE with this team.

I assume that the chatter out there is being promoted by his agent. He should clamp that down tight right now. I'm not convinced we'll hit 8-wins without the bowl game. Something about that stirring win over North Texas - evening the series - made my spider sense tingle.

I am beginning to fear that DownNDirty is absolutely right - Butch may make a less than lateral move because he's got a 3 - 4 year window before the platitudes wear thin at each new gig and the actual substance on Saturdays is exposed. I hope that's not right, and I hope if his agent was dropping hints that Butch put a lid on it quick. Save it for another year when he actually at least meets expectations.

Dooley shut out MTSU if I remember correctly. Should've given him a lifetime contract for that accomplishment, IMO.

So does Florida suck because Vandy about beat them and does Michigan suck because they had to go to 2OT to beat a team that was winless in the B10?

Are you really comparing USCe's much less UNT's D to Vandy's? I wish UT had Vandy's D scheme and coaching... because they sure aren't doing it with talent.

All you need to know is OK may make the playoffs on the strength of beating us and we should have won that game.

Yeah, I mean if they win out the wins over Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State won't mean anything. It's that big win over us that will propel them into the playoffs.

Regardless of any of our opinions it won't be any of us who makes that call....I wonder do you all get ur raises and extensions based in a similar fashion....but as for the team/coach I see positive strides for what it's worth

Think a lot of it is lack of depth in the 4th quarter..I know it was vs Oklahoma and Arky..we also came a lot closer to beating those teams than several who were more talented..three of them are 27-3!

None of the losses were because of depth. Don't kid yourself.

Bob Stoops would have UT at a one loss season, at most

No doubt that Jones could have pulled at least 4 losses at OU

Escalators and performance bonuses are built into the contract, so progress automatically triggers added compensation. Bowl game, SECE/SEC championships, playoff spot, NC, coach of the year, top recruiting class, etc.-- all earn additional monies, so CBJ is already rewarded for the progress he has achieved. There is no reason for a raise or extension beyond what is contractually promised at this time-- and this would apply to any coach, not just CBJ. His agent negotiated a solid contract, and CBJ is well compensated commensurate with performance.

We need to be sending a message to the recruiting world that Butch isn't going anywhere. Give him a raise and extension. With all of the "hot seat" talk at the beginning of the season, a lot of kids may be worried about how long his tenure will be. They need to know that the university is married to him and that they believe in his "process".

Maybe Butch should show that his process works before we get married to it. Also the kids know that if the team wins then Butch isn't going anywhere

I think we need to be patient through next year. The bar goes up. It's not been determined if he's a SEC caliber coach. We can make that decision after next season. I vote to give him a one year extension only if the next two are won. Either of the next two are lost then no raise and his seat goes red hot. :cray:

Destination jobs are few and far between, and very few jobs will match UT's compensation package and prestige. CBJ has the best offer he's going to get right now, and there's zero justification for sweetening it based on an 8-4 record, assuming, of course, that we win out. Win the SECE next year, and it's time to renegotiate; until then, stick with the contract. It's a good one.

Excellent post. I personally think Butch is going to have to win the East next year to even sniff at a raise. As far as an extension, I am much more reserved about that. He is on contract until 2020. Thats a littke too long IMO. A lot can happen from now and then.

Win the East next year and then talk about a raise. Although it shouldnt be a HUGE raise.

He doesn't need to be fired of course. There are a bunch of openings, and I doubt Butch would leave. But he has done nothing this season to be rewarded.

LOL, so if we get to 8-4 we should just pass him over? As I'm fond of calling a spade a spade, you sir are an idiot. Sorry, but if the shoe fits wear it!
