Butch Deserves More Time In Spite of Struggles

He has a career 8.7 game winning average.

A while back I looked at the winning % of the teams he beat at Cincy. IIRC, it was right around 40%. He avg's 8.7 wins per year... skewed by playing weak teams and coaches before arriving at UT.

If you want to lose to mediocre teams for the next 5 years, then firing Butch is a great way to get there, hoss.

Who is your dream candidate that's "on the market"?

Charlie Strong?
Brian Kelly?
Les Miles?

The only game-changing coach on the market was Tom Herman and he's at Texas now. The only other way to get a coach like that is to shell out about $6 or $7 mil and try to lure Mike McIntyre or Dan Mullen here. Even those guys aren't guaranteed successes. Frankly, Butch has performed better than guys like Strong, Kelly, and Miles.

This should be a reality check for the get rid of CBJ now bunch. Fire him now you have to replace him now and who with? The new AD will arrive and sit down with CBJ and lay out some rules of the road and goals for 2017. Butch and staff hit them or they don't and you can expect the AD will have a short list of replacements, they always do. Don't sell team 121 short, we lose a handful of impact players but the cupboard is not bare of experienced talent. Cam and JRM didn't play most of the season. Barnett, big loss, Dobbs has talented backups who should be serviceable or better. 121 should be OK, not like the gators reportedly losing 7 off their starting D or UGA that lose 3 off their bad OL meaning no recent backups on-site. CBJ and staff have to get their head out of their axxes or have glass stomachs installed because they need to see 2017 is one and done if they do not perform.

No, they think Gruden the savior is coming.

I am expecting ( historically based ) on 4 flips and 3 undecided ...so yeah ...dead serious. The class has some really high performers , but they are undersized from a weight POV , but that is not a big deal

Top 15-20 if we are lucky. We'll see. That #8 currently is very misleading. Strong finish now? Good luck with that. As others fill up I bet we plummet from that 8 spot.

Uhhh, what??? What are those 5?

The best player that Jones has recruited is Derek Barnett who will be a top 5 pick next April... Name even one player that Dooley recruited who is that good??? Just one.

Look at the context. Specifically talking about OL's.

Name the OL Jones has recruited that's as good as James, Stone, Fulton, Thomas, and Richardson.... much less a group on the field at the same time that's even close to that.

I would just point out that being fired by an SEC school didn't prevent Will Muschamp or Ed Orgeron from getting other head coaching jobs in the future (and back in the SEC at that). Your take is just wrong.

Okay, it wasn't clear you were just talking about offensive linemen... Still, the careers of Richmond, Hall and Boulware are not done. I would say that offensive line has been a disappointment but it cannot be intelligently argued that Dooley recruited as well as Jones.

Four flips from current commits or to UT?

I have been watching this a long time. I don't think I've ever seen 4 flips to UT this late in the recruiting cycle from high profile players.

UT's star average right now is 3.35. That would need to be around 3.7 to get to where you think they end up. That is very unlikely.

There will be 3 to 4 flips ...as it happens every year. There will be 3 to 4 late decisions ...as it is every year. The position rises. Guaranteed

So far when it comes to OL... it can. And especially when you consider that 4 of these guys were in Dooley's first class.

It is also interesting that rumors floated that those guys didn't work out like Jones required and wouldn't do things his way.... and they're still the best OL UT has fielded under Jones.

That line couldn't run block worth a damn...

The more I think about it, based upon what I've heard, I expect him to leave on his own before he can get fired. Getting fired will be the end of his sales pitch. He'll have nothing left to sell another program....he can't sell his coaching, his record, and a deeper look at recruiting diminishes that pitch.

He has the perfect window, with no legit AD in place, to cut his losses and run for the hills before the story he can tell changes drastically. If he's back next year the microscope he'll be under will be constant. He cannot stand up to that scrutiny. This is why I believe he's looking for a lifevest and getting ready to abandon ship. It's less about the buyout and salary, than the ability to continue being a head coach in the future.

This reminds me of of the Memphis Tigers and the Josh Pastners situation.

Also the Florida win is good only because it ended the streak; they are not that good of a team. It's funny how this place goes back and forth on them.

Just curious, if he did leave, who would you hire and which boosters would you get to fork over the millions of dollars it would take? Not saying it can't be done but UT's boosters have never shelled out the big bucks like boosters at some other schools.

This is the MAIN issue^^^^^^^

Recruiting doesn't screech to a halt when teams lose games they are favored in . It happens every season to every team except for a choice few during a choice few seasons. He will close in the top 10 , its just a question of how close he can get to the top

Recruiting will start on 12/06 when and if Trey Smith commits to Tenn but i think thats all the high profile butch gets
