Good point. I just wanted to know if there was news and admittedly wanted to know what started this I didn't even get there before I lost interest. I think we have new coach hire fever. Is there anything new today been working until now?

Guilty as charged regarding piling on the poster but most of these pages are rehashing the same thoughts by putting the words in different order. No need for a new thread. It's all conjecture anyhow.

Gruden said Tampa is "the only job he's ever really wanted." That's the only interesting thing.

It seems like everything is pointing in Butch's direction. Maybe it's just me but I'm not crazy about Butch. Personally I think Kiffin is a better choice over him. Anyway I'm just glad I'm not the one making the decision.

This should put the rumors to rest once and for all.

"I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the University of Tennessee job," UNC coach Butch Davis said on the ACC teleconference today. "It's a great job, but I have no interest in it. Like I've said for the last couple of weeks I love being here, my family loves being at Carolina, we're building it with the administration. We're doing everything we can every single day to build a championship football program here."

Davis also said that Tennessee, as far as he knows, has not contacted his agent. If that's the case, then maybe Tennessee doesn't have much interest in him, either.

Thank God. I'd have no respect for Davis if he did come here. Even if he won games, I'd always be wondering when he was gonna jump ship.

Tennessee is putting most of its eggs -- not to mention $3 million-plus a year -- into Butch Davis' basket. It's the right move. Whether Davis will take the bait is another matter. While some will question the hiring of anyone (I often wonder if the second coming of Bob Neyland would be panned in some circles), Davis is the best candidate out there. He can coach. He can recruit. And he is a disciplinarian. Do not underestimate the importance of the latter. -- Tennessee

It is what it is, but something's not right somewhere. He said that UT had not contacted him or his agent, as far as he knew. I find it hard to believe that at least a feeler wasn't sent out.
