Butch Davis (North Carolina)

Do you want Butch Davis to be the next head coach?

He can't even hint that he would be interested, because if for some reason it didn't work out, it could hurt his relationship with the admin at UNC not to mention his recruiting efforts. Anytime a coach is asked about the UT job, all you're going to get is Coach Speak.

Yep...I meant 50 or under. My understanding was someone who could coach for 15 years or so...that would certainly be 50 or under.
That is absolutely not what we should be looking for. We need someone to turn everything around fast. If he is good and stays for a while and keeps winning, great, but longevity is not what we should go for initially. Didn't you learn anything from the past few years?

Butch Davis can't say if he is interested or not. They would torch him and it would hurt his current recruiting class. BTW Has anyone on here heard the rumor about Sherman from Niota?

Umm

Take the blinders off

UT is in disarray, it will take years to get them competitive again with Georgia and Florida in the East

He's already got UNC up to a respectable level- why would he leave behind 2 years of good work at a promising young program, a sleeping giant, to come to chaosville?

Blinders; you are the one posting negative stuff on every thread. Nothing like a good troll on a Sunday morning.

Umm….

UT is in disarray, similar to the disarray of AL under Shula or FL under Zook. It did not take them “years”. Or take UT basketball before Pearl. Yeah “years”, Riiiiight. A good coach can do it.

He has UNC up to respectabily. If that is all he hopes to achieve then I hope he stays. But most top competitors want to succeed at the highest level, (i.e., the SEC).

I was just watching channel 6 Sportstalk...the majority said we should and will get Butch Davis as our new HC.
4-5 million $$ should be able to get him they said.....

that Butch Davis is not coming to Tennessee. This is based on a conversation he had with Davis last week. I guess we'll see in about a month or so.

Butch Davis told me personally that he was coming to Tennessee, but was just telling people he wasn't to keep people off his back.

I just don't have a good feeling about him either, but I do know that money can change his mind.

Just a little tip. If something happened yesterday it has been posted here multiple times. Search is a handy feature.:hi:

I will say though....it's been craaa-z this week.

At this point, I am much more interested in the next 5 years. I will worry about 6-15 after that. I hope the administration will have sense enough to do the same.

Trying to plan the staffing for any organization, much less one with turnover as high as coaching, decades from now is beyond pointless.

Dennis Dodd said just a few hours before KState made thier move that Patterson would not go to KState due to a privat conversation they had.

Honestly folks, ANY currently employed coach is going to either deny they have been contacted or deny interest in the job. It's just smart to do that. Otherwise you risk alienating your current players and making a mess of your current team. And there is always the possibility of a bunch of "Saban-esque" commentary as well. We may already have a coach ready to sign, but until the season is over, NOTHING will be made public.

According to the GoVolsXtra site, Butch Davis is now the leading candidate to take over for Fulmer. I like Butch Davis as a candidate to turn the football program around, too. But, at this point, I’d have to say that I like Mike Leach as my number 1 pick. Here’s why: Mike Leach’s current team has averaged 48 points while giving up only 22 points per game against some very stiff competition. That speaks well of both their offense and defense. Texas Tech recently knocked off one of the media favorites for the BCS championship game (Texas - ranked number 1 in the nation at the time). Texas Tech has not one, but TWO Heisman Trophy candidates in QB Graham Harrell and WR Michael Crabtree right now, which speaks to the fact that Leach can not only recruit, but develop his recruits to the maximum of their ability (something Fulmer could never seem to do). Leach’s Texas Tech team is clearly the dominant team in the one football conference that is arguably as good as the SEC this year, if not better. Mike Leach is not only highly regarded by his peers and experts in the world of college football, there’s no one better at Xs and Os, or at player motivation and discipline. Texas Tech is clearly the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12 this year and may just be on its way to the BCS title game at the end of the season. On top of all that, Leach has a set of intangibles that I haven’t seen since Bruce Pearl. Is there a Volunteer fan out there who wouldn’t love to see Tennessee put up 48 points on Florida, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, et. al? Butch Davis’s Carolina team is doing great in the ACC, but it’s the ACC, not the SEC or the Big 12. Is there a football fan out there anywhere (aside from a North Carolina fan) who doesn’t believe that Mike Leach’s current team would beat the crap out of Butch Davis’s current team?

Butch Davis is a great candidate for many reasons. But, I say bring in Mike Leach and just watch all those blue chip recruits knocking each other out of the way to jump on board the Volunteer Express to Heisman Trophy glory, SEC titles, and national championships. :rock2:

All I can say, is that when I read that article on GVX, it put a very large smile on my face.

Davis is a much, much better recruiter than Leach.

If TT was in the SEC they would not be 2nd in the nation and undefeated. The defenses of Florida and Alabama would hold them to 14 pts and TT defense against Tebow would be a blood bath. Last year Leach was not even on peoples minds here, but this year he has seen success and he is the rage. My question is are people closely looking at canditates body of work more then 1 to 2 yrs? This is the biggest hire in UT history given the economics and we need to be examining canditates whole body of work and stop being bandwagon canditate fans based upon the current year.
