Butch could still save job-per source

This is like the movie Dazed and Confused, other teams get better and we stay the saaaammmeeee........

If only we were/are the same / We're not close to the SAME (as last year). This was probably what Butch and Currie were banking on, that we'd mire along at 8-4 with a bowl (I'm sure Currie trusted Doug Matthews' prediction), but they see week after week that that's not happening. It's the Currie-Jones show.

This is ridiculous. I don't care if he beats the brakes off of Kentucky and the rest of the losing football programs we have left on our schedule. That is NOT (or at least shouldn't be) the measuring stick. We need to have winning records in the SEC and be competing for championships more years than not. Butch isn't doing that, and it's year five. Enough is enough!

If op is correct, sad times for UT football. I thought the people calling for boycott of games were too extreme, but maybe not. I guess that's what it will take.

""Tennessee’s athletic department and the five-word, bottom-line mantra that’s quoted in arguably the largest sign in his office: “Will it help us win?”""

"he never wants to prioritize short-term comfort over long-term success."

""Whether to do something or not to do something or to change something not to change something, we need to look back and make sure that something we’re spending time and energy on corresponds to one of those mission goals.""

"“It’s too easy to get distracted by peripheral deals if you let yourself.”"

""... about an environment where young people can grow to be their best.""

Hopefully Mr. Currie has heard, that according to many fans and on-lookers (nat'l media), Player development is not a peripheral deal, and player development, under this staff, has taken steps-backwards. Perhaps it's easy for the AD to get distracted with facility improvements, when the bigger issue is coaching. Will keeping Butch Jones after the 2017 season help us win in 2018?

People, the UTAD and admin don't look at these things like the average fans do. I've said the earliest Butch will be let go is after the KY game IF we lose. If we don't, I think they see what unfolds against most of the rest of the schedule. If we lose to KY and/or get to a point where it becomes apparent we will have a losing season (6-6 or worse), at that point I think they'll make a move. I'm sure they are considering all possible outcomes and scenarios and the wheels are turning. I guess we just have to enjoy the ride.

Chris Lowe and Jesse Simonton were discussing this tonight on the radio. Both said they think he coaches the rest of the season. They said the reasoning is that if you put an interim in that has no shot at the HC job, then the team will lose it's head and get in trouble with grades, etc. Also said that the assistants would be looking for new jobs and not focusing on the Vols. They said that's the last thing a new coach wants to walk into. Both were saying they think he's done for, but they don't think it will be mid season.

Was it Simonton or Austin Price? Either way I heard the conversation and you are right about what was discussed. Could make some sense, but it is going to be brutal to watch if our offense stays the course. May have a little more success against pretty avg. teams like KY, Southern Miss and Mizzou, but then again UMASS was terrible and we were in a dog fight.

You're right, it was austin price. Some of the arguments make sense, but seems to make more sense to try and salvage our recruiting class and also land the big name.

Whole lotta speculating at best right there imo.

UMASS sure looked good that game..😕

We are led by boosters and an Ad that accept winning seasons as success meaning 6 and 6 is a fabulous season. We seem to have no desire to move to the level of Alabama seems we would rather have the money.

There is a difference between us and Alabama. One is continuously seeking excellence and the other does not really care.

What if Butch puts up 50 a piece on UK and Vandy? Would Currie go bananas and give him an extension, land, UT stock, and a company car?

Considering the offense hasn't scored a touchdown since the UMASS game, it's unlikely we'll score 50 on anyone in FBS and a few teams in FCS would be difficult as well.

that is likely not to change if move made today IMO, this offense can't score on anyone, with or without Butch

Scary, no? I worry the Vols are going back to the dessert for an extended period, a sad thought indeed!:banghead2:

I know... I used to be behind him and I will change to the new coach whenever he is let go.
Might wanna consider something UT related, rather than a specific coach for an avatar. Save yourself a lot of embarrassment when the coach flees or is fired. Just ask members who had Pearl, Martin, Kiffin, Dooley...the list goes on and on.

Getting the feeling that Currie is dangling without a plan. Right now I have him on the same level as our head coach. He knows he can’t fire Butch without a fish on the hook. In the meantime Butch is gutting the program because he does not want to be here. Currie’s lack of strategic thinking could sink this ship.

Got news for ya. He wins out and he's back. I dont like it either. He can even lose to lsu and be back. Unless he does worse than the one lsu lost butch is back next year. Unfortunately!!!!

The standard around here seems to be bowl eligibility.

That is why you and I weren't hired to do that job. Just because more and more regular joes believe a change is needed ASAP doesn't mean it happens on our timeline.

I look at it like this; If I were a big money booster who might contribute to paying buyouts, what do I do?

A) Respond to the wailing masses, drain my savings to make them happy, and file for chapter 11 in 5 years.

B) Let the AD do his job, buy me a yacht and go deep sea fishing and stay wealthy the rest of my life and consider your incurable misery quality entertainment?

Johnny, I will take what is behind door B.

Here is my answer

I don’t want to start the day on a negative but what are the chances that Butch hasn’t been fired because Currie has contacted every coach on the top of the list and they have all turned down the job offer?

Slim to none! The names on our list would usually jump at the money to come. I dont mean the wnml " oh we talked to a guy and he said no" bs
