Butch could still save job-per source

I’m sure they care greatly about winning. However they’ve made millions by not listening to idiots that post on free web sites.

TN played a team that was just better than any member of TN. Alabama showed their talent and their recruiting stars. TN CAN NOT COMPETE in the SEC. They simply don't have the player on the same level as Alabama and we know Butch Jones isn't on the same level with Saban. All of this can change if UT wants to. Are they willing to shell out the $ for a new coach and is Butch's replacement a proven winner. Not a TV ESPN star, but a down in the ditches head coach. One who knows how to plan to win. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Ask Butch! You can wait until the season is over. The best fit may already be hired by another team and we may lose more recruits. So, John Currier what are you going to do.....

We are through the rough part of our schedule. Sadly Butch can win a few mores games here and there and buy himself some more time.

I am still on wait and see mode. Maybe Currie waiting will pay off. Maybe the new coach will be thinking "Nice to have an AD that has my back"

A big name coach may frown upon an AD who makes quick decisions.

excellent point.

Currie:

“I’m very proud of the job that our staff has done in rebuilding our program, and Coach Jones,” Currie told The Athletic on Sept. 21. “People get hung up in speculation before they really know anything about what they’re talking about sometimes.”

Savvy response. Keeping his cards close to the vest. Maybe there's hope for this guy, after all.

If op is correct, sad times for UT football. I thought the people calling for boycott of games were too extreme, but maybe not. I guess that's what it will take.

If Blackburn is so good, then why isnt he employed?

Because Haslam knew he couldn't control Blackburn or Fulmer, so he hired Puppet Currie.
This whole thing has become a joke...
The 121 trashcan could lead this team to a bowl game..
Butch is the worst in game coach in SEC history.

There is no way he saves his job, the fan base would completely give up and stop going to games. It would cost the university money and that's what it is all about to them. He is done he should have already been fired!! And if that's the truth then GO BIG BLUE

There's no way a competent administration would keep Butch beyond this year. So, he probably does have a chance to be back at UT next year.

His way of betting has certainly worked out well for the football program hasnt it? I mean Kiffin, Dooley and Jones were just dream hires. LOL.

If he really was serious about winning, we would have gotten better coaches. Haslam, Thunder and the rest of the money bags dont care about winning as much as you want to believe.

Kiffin was wanted here, and was highly thought of when hired. Maybe not by you, but in football circles he was. Plus he put together a great staff.

Dooley was an emergency hire. No one(but Kiffin) would leave their job in that moment. We got the best crap coach we could. At the worst time to be looking for a coach.

Jones has done exactly what he was hired to do! Stabilize the program. Rebuild the talent. Get some respectability back. And again, no dream hire was trying to jump into the dumpster fire Dools created.

Just because s**t doesn’t work out. Doesn’t mean the people involved didn’t care. Those guys have given more to UT than you will ever dream of. The ONLY thing they get out of it? The joy of winning. It’s not like they get a cut of UT’s profit.

Did Bama not care about winning the 2 seasons before Saban? They had like 4-5 coaches in 18 months. Does UF not want to win now. Or, Nebraska, or USC, or the other UT?

It’s not easy to get everything right, and hindsight is 20/20. But, to think our boosters don’t care about winning is foolish!

That's a sad state of affairs if Butch can still save his job. I call BS and think they don't want Jones and staff to give up while candidates are being checked out. Surely if I can finally realize Butch can't get it done, the UT AD can.

Butch knows he cannot coach at this level... Currie knows it too. But Currie is going to make Butch holler Uncle, and accept a 50 cent buyout package.

Let's go wildcats then. If Butch can save his job by winning all remaining games then I can't possibly get behind him. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if he is retained next year we will have another year of this crap.

Butch's days are numbered, but seriously...regardless of how bad the HC is I'll never hope we lose especially to our baby rivals that we should trounce every year

All of these hopeful "Boosters are ponying up the money, Currie is taking his time to make a homerun hire, Peyton and Phil are working behind the scenes and have a say in the matter, Butch has settled on a buyout... etc etc" posts and theories are all just optimistic dreams.

A lot of fans are trying to make sense of what is going on, but there's not a lot of sense to make.

We keep thinking that every week is the final straw, and it's not even close. This is going to take way longer than it should (it already has, honestly) and we aren't going to make a satisfying hire, compared to what our fanbase collectively would view as a successful hire.

Butch will lose to UK and still run through the T vs Southern Miss and we'll still be wondering what the hell is going on. Every week that this continues, it will become more and more apparent that the powers that be aren't as calculated and sharp as we thought, and everyone will have flashbacks to 2009-2010 and 2012-2013.

Aside from fan-fiction that you've seen on Twitter or forums (all from unsubstantiated resources), do you feel confident about any of this? Especially with Butch still here, somehow.
