Butch can't be conservative against UGA

The bolded is pretty much the only reason I only talked about offense. We can’t stop them. We have to score with them.

yeah, if we can't stop the run on early downs, it's gonna be a long day. i'm not all that confident we will to be honest.

and sadder yet, i don't know that having all the right calls and scheme will necessarily yield the desired result. which is the only reason i'd say that 'coaching' as it relates to how this game plays out, may not matter one way or the other.

but, still, when talking about aggressive game plans, or not playing conservatively....i actually think that may apply more to the defense than the offense. if i'm going to take chances, i might run blitz more this game, than i have all season. especially early. give one look up front, and bring guys from all over the place, stunts, switches... blitz safeties...whatever.

the creativity, really, needs to be on the defensive side of the ball imo.

It would absolutely bless my soul to see us bring hell on Fromm. I agree, bring pressure.

Of course once they figure it out they start dropping off to TE’s..... uggghhhhh the thought of Justin Martin trying to tackle a TE in open field makes me sick.....

the pressure i'm talking about here is the run blitzes to force them in those predictable passing situations in 2nd and 3rd and long....and if we do that, unless field position says otherwise, i'd expect us to mix it up on when we blitz the qb, or we play coverage. first step though is get them in those situations...win 1st down.

2nd part...well you can take solace in the fact that martin probably won't be singled up on a TE unless he's lined up wide.

you can, instead, stew over the fact it'd be one of our LB's in the 43, or gaulden possibly in the 425. problem is they'll use TE's in most all their formations. so we'll have to be good at pre snap recognition and get people in the right alignments.

man, GA presents a lot of problems offensively. they have weapons. still, they only threw it 12 times last week. at home. against a run defense better than ours.

i'd say on the road, against our D, we're gonna have to show we can stop the run before they get too crazy in the passing game.

Well then, brace yourselves. The same folks who were initially overly optimistic about us being a worthy 10-2 or 11-1 program are calling for us to now beat a top 10 team when a week ago we were hoping for a defensive stand on the last series of the game to one of the 5 worst teams in the league.

Even if he isn't fired till the end of the season Butch could very well be coaching for his job Saturday. The pitchforks and torches are almost at the castle.

Here’s what bothers me:

-Screens won’t work, and that’s our bread and butter. Their linebackers are too good.

-Kelly between the tackles won’t work. Kelly has to hide behind the line and try to sneak to the outside. Roquan Smith is going to spy him. Kelly is going to be tested like he’s never been tested before.

-Kirby is a Saban disciple, meaning he won’t respect the QB keep. This is where we have to develop the edge. QD absolutely HAS to keep it some, especially on short down situations. This will never happen because our staff has no clue what they’re doing, but it makes me feel better to say it out loud.

-TE’s have to be used. 2 TE sets, quick passes over the middle. We have to dink and dunk on them. This will never happen because our staff has no clue what they’re doing, but it makes me feel better to say it out loud.

-Callaway and Byrd easily have the speed to burn the UGA secondary, and they are possession guys. The ball needs to get in their hands on short passes. This will never happen because our staff has no clue what they’re doing, but it makes me feel better to say it out loud.

We can win this game. It comes down to coaching. If we scheme correctly, we actually have several advantages. This will never happen because our staff has no clue what they’re doing, but it makes me feel better to say it out loud.

You have got to mix it up, screens will work when they are set up. You can't throw them every other play. Running in between the tackles will work if we mix it up with a good short passing game. Also we must go downfield every so often, they key is winning the LOS. If we win the LOS, we will be able to run and pass. The bottom line is mixing it up, and to win upfront. On defense we must stop the run first and foremost. And again win the LOS. GBO!!!!

Their offense isn't really anything that concerns me that much because I think our defense will be ok. It's that defense. Kirby has them playing like Alabama and it's no coincidence. If they are able to get pressure just rushing 4 it will be a long day. If our OLine can neutralize the rush it will come down to the wire.

well, they are very good. and fast. and if you can get them on a rush, or flowing one way, you can get out ahead on a screen, or misdirection screen. so that speed can be negated, if done correctly, and at the right time. i do not have faith that we can run those come back wr screens. i would expect to see a fair share of draw plays too to take advantage of their up the field speed.

again, against a fast defense like theirs, running at it, instead of around it, can work. depends on what you're seeing in the defensive front of course. if on early downs they're loading the box with 7, we're going to have manufacture some passing game to back those guys out of the box, so we can run. it's imperative we have success (4 yards or more) on 1st down. if we can't, we're predictable, and will go 3 and out. a lot.
i get what you're saying. and we may see him keep it a little bit early. but they don't want him getting hit a lot, and after the fumble last week probably didn't instill a ton of confidence. i expect to be frustrated by this.

i'm not even sure we'll have two TE's suited up?

well, getting byrd 3 touches against umass was a step in the right direction. but hardly enough to call him a factor. callaway is that big tall possession receiver that can use his body to get in front and get 50/50 balls. he'll have to do that Saturday. having Johnson emerge last week was a promising sign.

i get what you're saying, but there are some pretty obvious personnel match ups that just don't favor us. especially defensively. we can scheme all we want, but our deficiencies at LB are a glaring hole for opposing teams to run right at them, and see if we can stop them. even with the right calls, right scheme, it's a mismatch. and offensively, again, given how our O line has played recently (jeckyll/hyde) is the GA front 7 screaming "get right game" for that group?

now, holistically, that's the coaches' problem to figure out. but as it relates to how this game plays out....yeah, i'll agree, it'll take some great coaching, and preparation....

agree with MOST of what you said but

Callaway averages 25 yards per catch, he's the opposite of a possession receiver.

You mean go for it like throwing on first down from the 1?
If he takes a risk he gets roasted by fans if he doesn't he gets roasted. What you mean is whatever he does he better win. That is the only thing fans will accept and many won't take that.

First offensive play Kelly up,the middle for no gain.

You people are ridiculous. "Being conservative" has not been the problem. The problem is that we are attempting to pass the ball too much. In reality, we need more of "Kelly up the middle...."

See the Florida game, seven play inside their ten yard line, for one example.

Trevor Daniel with a fake punt 80 yard bomb to Johnson for the td. Y'all didn't know he can throw it better than he can boot it?

I shudder at the thought of our OL vs the UGA front 7. Huge mismatch. I don't put a lot on Dormady while the game is close. Asking him to do much other than quick hitters, safe throws and handing the ball off is a recipe for disaster. Getting silly and reckless with gimmick plays is a mistake. You really think this team has shown it can execute high risk, high reward plays?

I think we rely on our defense and special teams. Run the ball and shorten the game. Incorporate some under the center, play action to buy Dormady a bit more time for the passing game that he's proficient with. Big question is how our defense will hold up vs that running attack. Hate to think we couldn't at least keep it a game well into the third quarter, but based on what I've seen from both teams, that may be asking a lot.

Bottom line...don't get stupid with the play calling until we have to. This is not a well oiled offense.
