I would argue we look way better on the field at this point with Butch than we did with Dooley. At this point in both Dooley and Jones' career they have the exact same record. Other than Jones bringing in better recruiting classes we are right where we were. In which case recruiting means nothing if you have a crappy coach, which appears to be the case.

no sense in being rude pal. with all the negativity im sick of all the pundits saying butch should do this or that. just win. its that simple. you dont have to read the post bru
Butch is a GREAT recruiter but a horrible football coach. He's clueless on how to win a close football game. We will win more than we lose due to just out 'talent-ing' some opponents. A double edged sword. There IS NO WAY UT should have lost that game. NONE.
BTW Butch, nobody gives two s**ts how much you "love this football team".
I am sorry to be rude, but "just win". Are you kidding me? This is less meaningful than the coach-speak CBJ gets **** for using. What do you think your adding to this forum? We arent trying to win? Come on, man
Just remember those recruits are Sophomores at best playing 2nd game of 2nd season at best. Seems to me we just expect improvement each year.. The eye test says we are seeing that despite the debacle Saturday night. Let's give him the chance to develop those recruits before we look to fire another coach.
BTW...what are all you people going to say if this team wins 8 this year? Still gonna post the fire Butch threads or jump back on the bandwagon?
We ll see.
Gonna need to be up more than 2 scores going into the 4th it appears. At least according to last years UF game and last nite.

Should NOT fire him. He's too good a recruiter. He is however a terrible football "coach" who doesn't know how to win football games. The important thing to remember is and he made this very clear in his postgame; he "loves this football team".
Here's an idea. If you "love" your team so much...let them win a football game and don't ruin it for them.
We ll see.

Does losing Florida game immediately put him on a hot seat ?
He has been able to recruit well but he hasn't won games yet.
His 4-5-star WR recruits go MIA in big games and can't get open all game.
His Junior QB doesn't have passing accuracy and Butch's offense hasn't been able to device plays to give him space to run.
Butch plays too conservative. After a 2TD lead, there were no fly sweeps, no edge rushes, no slants. He seemed to have run up the middle attitude but when Oklahoma covered the box, he had no adjustment.
This has been a case many times that once teams come back from Half time adjustment, Butch has no answer against big teams. Last year's Florida game and this year's OK game are prime examples.
When in 4th quarter with 6 minutes to go and 2 TD lead, why was Butch still running a hurry up offense. You can chew around 1.50 off the clock on each 3 downs. Even with two 3-and-out that leaves OU 3 minutes to score 2 TDs and with 2 first downs game is over (barring time outs).
Butch is yet to win a game he is underdog in barring Spurrier. His teams have now multiple times (GA, FL, MO, VN, OU) floundered leads and lost games.
If we go 7-5 this year (strong possibility if we lose to FL), he will have ALMOST same record as Dooley. Given he recruits miles better than Dooley, does that mean he is worse at coaching the game than Dools ?
So how long is the leash on BUTCH ?
The fan base will get over the OU loss in due time. This is a very well coached team IMO, but I suspect that the Debord hire could end up being a bad decision. Time will tell. Kinda reminds me of the Clawson situation with Coach Fulmer. I'm not so sure that wasn't such a bad hire as it was the fans not willing to give Coach Fulmer and Coach Clawson time to adjust to such an intricate offense..
I still think Tennessee has an excellent chance to win the SEC East, and that will erase the stinging memory of this loss that should have never happened, and then we will all be singing Butch's praises once again. Winning the SEC championship though will be a longshot, but Tennessee should end the season with a pretty decent record and a good bowl game..
I agree when you have them down you don't let up. Last night sucked but it's a long season and we have plenty more time to prove ourselves. I'm not down on this team or these coaches. Getting conservative last night hurt us but the defense played amazing and jalen Hurd is the real deal. Going into the season I had Oklahoma and bama as our two toughest opponents and from what I've seen around the league so far this year we are capable of winning all others. Florida didn't look great yesterday only winning by 7 with Ecu about to tie it up. Georgia is one dimensional and if they beat us throwing the ball then they deserve to win South Carolina doesn't have much other than pharaoh cooper Kentucky hasn't looked impressive vandy is vandy and Missouri didn't look good either. I still like our chances for a great season.
ECU lost to UF by 7 points. If Butch and Co. cannot win now with the talent we have, then the seat gets warm for sure.
