Butch better win at Florida

I originally thought the idea of UF being a must win game was insane. Now I totally agree it is. I am going to go a step farther. Butch needs to at the very least, beat UF, UGA and Mizzou. Forget about Bama. The honeymoon is over for me. Wins are what matters and since Fulmer we have had what 2 wins against ranked teams? Pathetic.

Almost everyone here said we lose at least 2 this year and many said "BEST CASE". I saw losses to Oklahoma and Alabama. That is still a 10 win season and what most said was best case a month ago. Let's not forget that. 3 losses is still a 9 win season. I think we can win the East, but our fanbase can't have a pity party and suck the life out of Knoxville like years past. It's only game 2, so stay behind them and let's win the east.

That's not the point. Butch has proven time after time he will lose almost all the close games. That quickly leads me to believe he's not the right guy. If he can't get us to 8-4 this year he never will.

I believe he is 3-4 in games decided by a TD or less since becoming coach. That's not almost all and certainly not time after time.

Edit: I checked records; he's 4-4

Does losing Florida game immediately put him on a hot seat ?

He has been able to recruit well but he hasn't won games yet.

His 4-5-star WR recruits go MIA in big games and can't get open all game.

His Junior QB doesn't have passing accuracy and Butch's offense hasn't been able to device plays to give him space to run.

Butch plays too conservative. After a 2TD lead, there were no fly sweeps, no edge rushes, no slants. He seemed to have run up the middle attitude but when Oklahoma covered the box, he had no adjustment.

This has been a case many times that once teams come back from Half time adjustment, Butch has no answer against big teams. Last year's Florida game and this year's OK game are prime examples.

When in 4th quarter with 6 minutes to go and 2 TD lead, why was Butch still running a hurry up offense. You can chew around 1.50 off the clock on each 3 downs. Even with two 3-and-out that leaves OU 3 minutes to score 2 TDs and with 2 first downs game is over (barring time outs).

Butch is yet to win a game he is underdog in barring Spurrier. His teams have now multiple times (GA, FL, MO, VN, OU) floundered leads and lost games.

If we go 7-5 this year (strong possibility if we lose to FL), he will have ALMOST same record as Dooley. Given he recruits miles better than Dooley, does that mean he is worse at coaching the game than Dools ?

So how long is the leash on BUTCH ?

I'm 30 years old and been a Vol fan since I was 7 or 8 years old. I've supported them, cheered them through good times and bad, but this is getting ridiculous.

I was a little skeptical when UT hired Butch seeing as the prior two coaches weren't worth nothing. I thought the biggest team he's coached was Cincinnati, but this is the SEC. I'm not going to say we're always the "best" conference, but we're d*mn sure the toughest. The SEC conference games are tough & grueling as it is.

I believe we hired another Mark Richt.
Butch can recruit, he's got the slogans and the mottos, but I don't think he can win a big demanding game.

We've lost to Georgia twice which could have been wins. There's no reason UF should have won last year, and now we allow OU to come back and beat us in our house because he's to scared to take a 1 yard chance when momentum is in our favor or he tries to manage the game conservative.

At this point I believe he should stick with building mailboxes cause he hasn't showed he can coach worth a hoot.

If the offense doesn't completely change by that game, it's gonna get bad. And I hate that but it's just the way it's gonna be.

No it doesn't get Butch fired. He has recruited to good to this point to get fired this year. A collaspe in 2016 is the only thing that gets him fired. You got to pump the brakes bruh. This loss sucks a big one but we were the underdogs going in.

Those are all valid points. I think he has to know that his seat is getting a little warm and the UF game has become a must win for him and this program. I'm confused as to how you can get a team so ready to play against Iowa and come out and lay an egg like last night.

You have got to take a step back and remember where we were just 3 years ago.

ECU lost to UF by 7 points. If Butch and Co. cannot win now with the talent we have, then the seat gets warm for sure.

Wasn't ECU pretty good last year? I remember them being ranked for awhile.

I mean, Florida DOES suck. It all depends on how we can contain their O. McElwain is an offensive minded coach, and while I think he'll be a terrible HC he is a very good OC.

If Florida has ever been low hanging fruit it's this season. I watched that ECU game today and Florida looked mediocre at best.

He doesn't lose his job with a Florida loss, but right now the fan base is on the edge. He hasn't lost the fan base yet, but they are packed up and ready to leave.

A Florida loss sends them out the door in a hurry. At that point you get less fans in Neyland, less support, which equals less dollars, etc etc. Then career-wise he's a dead man walking.

ECU is no cream puff but cannot match SEC caliber athletes pound for pound.ECU rushed for -13 yards and lost by seven points. Now that doesn't mean we will win but I like our chances.

Yes but .. I dont think Hargraves played and they have the dreaded mobile QB that drives the Vols D crazy -- after he gets by the DL can Jumper stop him ?

ou have got to take a step back and remember where we were just 3 years ago.

someone said he has the same record as doofus did since he he has been here i want to start see the wins, and if he does not beat flordia geo or ala soon i say we move on, not saying he has to beat them all but at least one this year and if not for sure one next year. it is all about the wins, that what matters the most. we will have our shots the rest of the season, it is not over but i am like most everyone on here, i am very upset with the way the game played out. we can blame players and coaches but it comes down to wins and that all that matters and we need one over florida, ala, or geo. GO VOLS!

Here is another dose of reality. Against UT and in the Swamp, Florida will play a tough game. Only the same level of thinking that led so many to believe UT would compete for an SEC Championship this year says that Florida should be an easy win.

I was talking with my buddy today about this game. If he drops the ball again at Florida he will lose a huge amount of the fan base. Its pretty much a guarantee at this point
