Butch has brought a down trodden program back from cellar dwelling to east division contender. Now we will find out how Butch feels about his future, if he is comfortable with the team he put together for the future he will upgrade his staff and move forward, if he feels the fan base is not satisfied or he has reached his plateau, now is the perfect time to seek another rebuild elsewhere. Should he decide to leave he is considered a great success and will have no problem obtaining employment, if he stays and is successful he is set for a long time, if he fails in the next couple of years his opportunities shrink greatly. If in his shoes what would you do?

It is decision time on this o line coach situation. They've been bad for four years. Did we have injuries? Sure. But they were bad from the first game.

Too many drama queens in the media, message boards, and call in shows trying to make this something that it isn't.

It is far to early to make a decision. However, national perception is probably not a favorable as I inferred in the OP post. He is in a very public position and should expect harsh criticism from a vocal minority of a passionate fan base.

Just beat Vandy, land a higher caliber bowl and keep progressing and Butch will have no worries.

If I'm in his shoes I look at my paycheck and my buyout and laugh my way too the bank

Dude there is no present crossroad.

Look how long he's been a HC now. He either stays the course and builds an elite team or he fails to succeed and steps down/fired a few years from now.

Unless some better offer flies out of the woodwork, because there aren't any on the table now and he doesn't have the pull our pedigree to find it if he goes looking, his only option to strengthen his resume is to stay the course.

He wouldn't be the first HC to get lost or cancel his journey on a one way street though if you want to call that a crossroad. It's pretty simple for him. Trudge forward to advanceve his career. Step any other way and reduce stature.

For him to go elsewhere he has to be offered a job. And not many other schools the caliber of tn are going to go after him.

Butch is NOT considered a great success by any stretch of imagination after failing to win the weak east division after 4 years - he even managed to lose to Muschamp again (this time Muschamp beat him with high school QB). If what you say had any truth to it, Butch would be mentioned as top candidate for Texas, or LSU jobs (as an example). If Butch wanted to leave right now he would not get a better job than here anywhere (not even close, although to be fair there are not many jobs better than Tennessee in the first place).

Which I agree with, Butch could probably go somewhere like Purdue and never have the issues he will have at Tennessee

I agree - Purdue would be a great fit for Butch. Actually other then the real big jobs with huge expectations like Texas, USC, and ND he could go almost anywhere outside of SEC (where he is just not good enough to win the big prizes), and probably be successful enough to make the fans happy (and with a lot less stress).

All of you blockheads who think Jones should leave must be living in a shack in the woods. Jones loves UT and is a good recruiter, for starters. Those are two important qualities that are very hard to find. He's made the program better. He's not going anywhere, so stop with all this idiocy because we didn't win the east and earn the chance to get embarrassed a second time by alabama. We had a ton of injuries this year and some personnel problems. Jones has done a good job--period.

well...fact is there were OL injuries prior to the first game, but it does appear a new OL coach is in order.

I am amazed how Oline coach has saved his job so far.
His first year the NFL star loaded line he inherited from Dooley actually regressed. They blamed it on change of scheme etc.
His second year, Justin Worley almost got killed with 29 sacks. The number was softened as Dobbs took over mid-season.
His third year, the number touted was 2900 rushing yards but people forget that we had zero passing game. Line could not even hold for a second. Dobbs, Hurd and Kamara trio ran crazy but Oline couldn't stop pass rush.
His 4th year, even App State guys ran past his Oline. Youth was touted. This is 4th year of bad line play. It wasn't only Alabama's Dline over powering them. It was App State, Ohio even before injuries.

Some of the rushing and sack numbers look respectable because of how elusive Dobbs is. Take him out and this line will crumble and so will our offense.

Fire Mahoney.

There are several better jobs that Tennessee if you take off those blinders

My family moved into Western North Carolina in 1785, some of the earliest settlers in this region, and for many years my ancestors lived in maybe what you would call a shack. I for one am not ashamed of my past nor of anyone else who lives below your standards.

I've asked this several times with no answer, exactly which high school does Carolinas qb attend?
