Butch and Dobbs

Butch is attempting to make excuses for not starting Dobbs at the first of the year. Everybody knows Butch messed up big time for wasting Dobbs this year. If he had started we would be contending for the SEC East , more than likely.

That's easy to say in hindsight after that one great game Dobbs had, and I hope he keeps it up. Kentucky got a lot of tape to watch from the USC game - even though their D isn't any better - but they may be better prepared. Dobbs admittedly wasn't ready last year and his results dropped after the first game that he started with a bump in Lexington (Missouri 240 P, 60 R; Auburn 128 P, 68 R; Vanderbilt 53 P, 50 R; Kentucky 166 P, 66 R). His running brings a great dimension and helps Hurd gets some lanes as well.

Watch practice tapes, he struggles with medium range passes. He overthrew it in the USC game. Short 5-12 yard stuff is all arm and he can chuck it long, but the intermediate 15-25 yard stuff is mostly high. He still is not consistent in stepping into those throws during the release and that may be what concerns Butch. And a high throw in the middle of the field has a safety waiting on it.

Whether UT would be at the top of the East is a great second-guess but it's not an excuse. Dobbs' mechanics still needs work to complement the other dynamic stuff that he brings with his legs. He does look more decisive and the game has slowed down for him. I hope he wins out against the lesser competition of the SEC schedule and maybe we'll be set at QB going into next year.

I'm sure the coaches have helped Dobbs in some ways, as the do most players--but I certainly saw what Dobbs could do last year--be better than Worley and Peterman--even if everyone else on this board refused to see it.

Dobbs is an athlete, and what we're getting from Jones is more than a bit of coverup for a bungled QB decision. Dobbs could complete half as many passes as Worley and we'd still be a better offense because of his ability to run--and in fact he throws as well as Worley, and will get better.

Wish you were our coach instead of the dude that makes our fries.

I'm always amused how many of you sunshine pumpers get angry when I confront the popular lies you swallowed I just keep repeating the facts and evidence nobody can refute, so they attack me as if I'm the problem for telling the truth and never wavering.

(Sorry Nathan Peterman for doing that but had to be done FWIW)

Not sure why Coach Jones had Dobbs buried for a red shirt...Perhaps he was wanting the boy to become more of a man with time, who knows. It was obvious Peterman was not the QB....In any event Dobbs is the man now, and why all the fuss about why, or if, Jones made a mistake, is just ridiculous.

I've read all the way through this thread and really have no particular bias or opinion in the Dobbs/Peterman argument. I really don't care so long as the best one is playing now. And from what I've seen of Peterman, he is just awful. Seems like a good kid, but really just a deer in headlights on the field.
But the one thing I've definitely taken from this thread is that you might be a little too obsessed with the topic. Take a breath and relax, man. You're acting like you're a member of the coaching staff or something. I don't think anyone on here knows any more about the situation than anyone else.

Not true. The history is absolutely relevant to why Butch is reticent about Dobbs 'consistency' going forward - the subject of this thread. Those who dislike Peterman have rewritten the history and created a false narrative of Dobbs being some prized horse in the arsenal being saved by coaches for next year. It was never true and Butch knows the reality. He knows the serious, pervasive nature of Dobbs accuracy problems and is not deluded like the fanbase.

All the sunshine pumpers and Peterman haters like KBVol created a mythology for gullible people to swallow. I'll stick with the truth. Truth matters.

You're a grown man acting like a 12 year old girl. We all want Peterman to be good but unfortunately he's just not at this point. That's all there really is to it. Jones is playing the guy that gives the team the best chance to win. Earlier in the season, it was Worley. Right now, it's Dobbs. Dobbs' accuracy issues are neither "serious" nor "pervasive" but he could certainly stand to improve, as could any player on the team at any time.

Are you Peterman's Dad? Cuz, you know....nepotism matters.

Not good enough also matters. You should watch some of Peterman's game film.

Im basing my judgement of Peterman based on what he has shown on the field in game situations. For all we know he is a better QB than Dobbs in practice - but he isnt in games. There is really no denying that.

Yeah, I realize that you guys have judged Peterman based on his very insignificant playing time. That's part of the issue. He hasn't played any significant time - less than 45 minutes, including 15 minutes with a broken thumb. Yet all you guys have dismissed him based on superficial surface impressions. There certainly is no denying that.

Butch knows Peterman has excellent passing skills, but has rarely played, so lacks experience or time to settle down. Butch understands the relative merits of his QB situation.

So, what have you seen that the rest of us haven't been privy to?

Nobody hates Peterman or has dismissed him. They just want somebody -anybody - to step up and provide good QB play and the current evidence points to the other guy.

No, I'm just a guy who watched the preseason QB competition for hours where Peterman was clearly the most skilled passer in the stable.

I watched hours of passing drills to form my opinion. You formed your superficial opinion based on the few short minutes of a rookie being thrown to wolves. You have no basis for your superficial judgement. Your opinion is ill-informed and knee-jerk. Mine is informed. See the difference Spanky? Good.

Watch Peterman's first 2 series against Bama then watch Dobbs'. Ask yourself which one played better?

The answer is easy and its not close. Peterman had a bunch of playing time - but when he has played he has failed to do anything to solidify his position in the depth chart.

We talkin' bout practice? Practice? Maybe Peterman is a good practice qb but doesn't have the confidence or skills to translate it to a game. Peterman was not thrown to wolves against Bama. He probably knew all week he was going to start, yet still looked completely over his head and ineffective.

I've noticed the love of the word "reticent". I didn't think about copying and pasting. I just thought maybe he was in dire need of a thesaurus.

Your limited vocabulary is not my deficiency.
No do you have an argument - or are you just cheerleading?

So how long would you like to give the team for your boy Nathan to figure it out, Mr. Peterman? Let's just go ahead and sacrifice the Kentucky game. We could always put Dobbs back in for the last two games to try and salvage our bowl eligibility.

I've seen 15 year olds pulled faster on performances like Peterman's in Pop Warner ball. This is the SEC, princess.

Hey I'm not picking at anybody, but maybe this guy defending Peterman to his death, is indeed Peterman! Wouldn't that be something.
