I have this real bad feeling that Currie is not going to do anything with Butch until after the season. Four games left. Season is gone to hell anyway. Currie reduces the buyout then fires him. Anyone got the same feeling?

Things can happen quickly but you usually get the rumors looks like Butch is here for another week and maybe the season which would be horrible to have a lame duck coach trying to get signees early.

We have a saying in my line of work which is political I migh add.....that a person can become to busy to do his/her job. Busy meaning being political, kissing ass, dealing with their own agenda within the organization etc. I feel like Currie is too busy to do his job which is the face and protector of the athletic programs at UT. His efforts Ned to be shifted to what is priority and he may be working his butt off behind the scenes but if he is I can’t see it. God speed to change and positive change. Go Vols.

If this is true then Currie has destroyed our recruiting class next year. I put this on Currie, these recruits want to know something. You have an outgoing coach that has no concern about our incoming recruits. At least an interim can work to salvage and limit the damage.

Currie is effecting the early success of our new coach.

It doesn't save you any money waiting so the buyout can go down. The buyout is $208k per month until the end of the contract. We're paying him $342k per month as long as he is the coach. The only way to save money is to fire him NOW!

I think Currie wasn't ready for how bad Butch actually is.

This is my belief as well. I believe he thought he at least 3 seasons before he had to make this type of decision. If he isn't careful instead of his hire being his down fall Butch will be. I say that because he's not putting the next coach in a favorable position. Maybe the early signing period doesnt impact us as but keeping this drama up is really impacting the UT brand.

Whatever he does, it will, in hindsight, turn out to be the worst possible course of action for the future of our football program. That’s what the past patterns have established in terms of expectations.

There is absolutely no reason to think this will turn out any different than the other hair-brained decisions we’ve seen in the past 10 years - it’s been a hall of fame of incompetence around here: Mike Hamilton, Derek Dooley, Dave Hart, Butch Jones, whoever comes next.

Dang. The situation is depressing.

Yes.
Hyams and Mathews seemed to confirm this morning that they have decided to fire him but don’t want an interim.
I think he should be gone now.
But, if they are going to wait and that is looking more and more to be the case, I would advise Currie to put out a generic statement to assuage the masses, at least a little.
A statement that in no way backs Butch but says he won’t be fired until after Vandy.

Something like:
“ I want you to know that I have heard from many of you about our football program. I have replied to some of you, but not all. So, I’m putting out this statement that I have been disappointed in our teams performance and the number of wins this season. As I am charged to do with all of our programs, football is always under evaluation. At the end of the regular season, our coaching staff will be fully evaluated and we will then decide where we go from there. Go Vols.”

If he waits until the end of the season, the lot will have all the good ones sold. We will end up buying a ford pinto of coaching.

Currie should apologise for losing to Kensuckey. Totally unacceptable! Then fire Jones. Guess he will wait and destroy our recruiting class

I don’t believe this is going to get better anytime soon. Any coach prospect for UT knows you have to play Alabama every year. UGA looks like a new monster in the east, and odds are very good Florida gets ahead of us and hires a better coach. So there are three teams waiting to kick your ass every year, nevermind someone like LSU, A&M, Miss/MSU, etc. on the rotation. I don’t see many sensible coaches taking on that gauntlet.

Currie doesn't have the authority to do anything. He answers to his boss.

Who is our decision maker?

That's the issue.

And this is why I was never on the Currie bandwagon. He’s too arrogant.

Yea Currie could have made that comment post Georgia and it would have been fine.
He failed to address it when he should have. Now he has a mess on his hands that he has to make a move now.

I guess Currie doesn't care about us going 3-9.

We go 4-8 with Butch or without him imo. The assistants are just as bad and no coach is leaving their program before the end of the year.

If Gruden was coming then we would have fired Butch by now, but I think it is clear we are going to get someone who is currently coaching.
