Building For 2017

OL: A monumental embarrassment since Butch has been here. Will be the same next year as long as this wanna be OL coach is employed.

DL: We lose the best player on our team, Barnett. Enough said.

TE: We get no production now, I don't see them getting any next year either.

RB: No Kamara or Hurd. But Kelly will be good. Unfortunately they have to run behind this awful OL.

QB: Dobbs can't throw the ball, so maybe we improve there, but theres going to be a lot of ups and downs for whoever takes over next year. OL will get a non mobile qb killed. It would be nice to have a real QB coach...

Secondary: We lose Sutton. Not good. Need to see improvements big time. DBs have regressed sadly.

LB: JRM is gone, and we badly need depth and guys to step up.

WR: No idea. Byrd may go back to DB. With 5 star P Williams transferring, it hurts depth.

In conclusion: Fire OL coach Mahoney, get a QB coach, and find out why we have so many damn injuries. If we do that we may be decent next year.

Pretty good, real world summation Cat. Only thing I would really question is WR.

Malone has come along nicely, just needs a little more consistency vs physical DBs. He's shown big play ability and some very good athletic ability.

Jennings, while not a polished WR, is an aggressive playmaker who can be a clutch go-to guy. And Byrd has already shown great flashes as a freshman. Not sure what's behind those 3, but I feel good with those guys going into next season.

Agree with this. Unfortunately, I see butch continuing to force a square peg not a round hole. Don't see staff changes coming. I also hope we turn over/upgrade this current recruiting class. Far too many "overlooked" and "underrated" players in this class for comfort.

Mahoney not the issue. It is a passive zone blocking scheme. No one fires out , they engage the first person in there zone. This system will give any coach problems. Dobbs inability to hit intermediate passes causes pressure. No body respects the midrange passes and the Ds attack the run gaps and QB down hill. The O line is routinely out numbered.

DL: We lose the best player on our team, Barnett. Enough said.

I agree with this . Big loss.

TE: We get no production now, I don't see them getting any next year either.

No sure why either. This is a layered west coast passing tree. The TE should be JDs best friend. He seems to get stuck on the middle crossing routes.

RB: No Kamara or Hurd. But Kelly will be good. Unfortunately they have to run behind this awful OL.

Again, the O line will only improve when they update this horrid scheme. I think Kelly will be a better back than Hurd and Kamara. He attacks the hole and haas vision.

QB: Dobbs can't throw the ball, so maybe we improve there, but theres going to be a lot of ups and downs for whoever takes over next year. OL will get a non mobile qb killed. It would be nice to have a real QB coach...

This is a layered west coast passing game. This is not a 'zone read' system. The running game hinges on the passing game. The WC passing game requires a QB to be accurate and the ball to be gone in 2.3 seconds. If the QB can do this ...nobody gets killed. The problem with this system for college ...is there are only so many Joe Montana's.

Secondary: We lose Sutton. Not good. Need to see improvements big time. DBs have regressed sadly.

Sutton is a loss. The DBs are a whole of the sum of their parts. There are alot of injuries ...coupled with some aggressive fronts that put alot of pressure on these guys. Shoop has had some success and I love an aggressive defense...but his play calls have caused the team some problems too

LB: JRM is gone, and we badly need depth and guys to step up.

JRM cant be replaced. I think there is some good youth here and the playing time they have gotten this season will help out.

WR: No idea. Byrd may go back to DB. With 5 star P Williams transferring, it hurts depth.

The best part of our team ...just need to get the ball to them accurately .

In conclusion: Fire OL coach Mahoney, get a QB coach, and find out why we have so many damn injuries. If we do that we may be decent next year.

The injury thing is perplexing . Many of these injuries are not training related at all. Maybe these guys are over training ? too many reps? Have not seen anything like it before

After the Bama game it is apparent that UT needs players with more strength and determination on the offensive line, and more quickness, and speed in the back 7 on defense.

Some of that was due to so many players being injured and not playing, but I am certainly questioning the development of the players on this team.

Does Butch need to reevaluate his strength and conditioning program after the season yet again?

I certainly would.

Do the Vols really have SEC talent in reserve, or is UT planning on developing SEC talent?
