Just trying to piece it together, it looks to be the mid 80's. Can't pin it down. I know it wasn't anytime in the 70's. Made a cross country road trip in the mid 70's and the first place that had Coors was Tejas. Bought it at a KOA for $1.50/6 pack.

We stayed at a KOA in Bushkill, PA, when I was a kid. The only reason I remember was there was so many mosquitos I'm sure I had bites inside me from inhaling them. At about 6pm my (notoriously cheap) dad said F this and we went to a motel.

Did you know the alcohol content in coors is greater in TX than in Colorado?
I wouldn't be surprised. Probably some reason for it, too. The beer I'm drinking now is 8% from the liquor store but only 4% from the grocery store. Weird. It's 8% on base here, too.

I generally drink Bud products. The only Miller that ever darkens my fridge door is MGD.

Altitude! 5000 feet altitude makes it kick in better.

Bingo! I was up snow skiing at Steamboat about 5 years ago. Went on a beer run at the local grocery store. Walk in and the guy asks what I was looking for and I told him Coors light. He said I got a shipment of Texas Coors by accident if you want it. I asked him what the difference was, and he said it has more alcohol in it. I said give me 10 cases! lulz!!

I think it's state law in Utah. Grocery stores, convenient stores, etc. can only sell 4% and below. Liquor stores and military bases sell the high octane.

You got lucky. Altitude does make some differences in some things. From my old days, guarantee you get high quicker at 5000 and above. Winded quicker, too. I'm at 4500' here but lived at 6600' in Cali. I'm about as used to it as you can get.

On the road trip, we camped and stayed around Cripple Creek in Colorado and the Tarryall area. Elevations were around 9,000'-10,000'. Coming from Florida at basically 0-200' altitude, that made an impact on me back then.

We used to take forest service roads through the woods to Cripple Creek. That is wonderful country, dated a girl from Woodland Park, i'd consider parking my ass there for the long haul.

I would have stayed back then. A buddy made the trip with me. We tried to get jobs everywhere. I think putting campground addresses as our home address hindered us. We ran out of money and were trading bags of fresh oranges (that we brought from Florida) for food at a Mom/Pop grocery shop around Cripple Creek.
