1. So the sky is no longer falling, right? Or it still is? Or are we now a likely 2 seed? Am I doing the overreaction thing right? People wanted to freak out after the FSU game, change their win projection by 6-7 games, say how we likely miss the NCAAT...this is CBB and that was 1 game, just as the win today was 1 game, take a breathe and step away from the keyboard. The Vols are now 6-1 and ads still likely in a better spot than most anyone projected preseason, calm down.

2. Considering how sloppy we were with the ball yesterday, and the fact that VCU is one of the best teams in the country at forcing turnovers this matchup had me pretty nervous. Instead we only turn the ball over 13 times and for the most part looked much more in sync. Hopefully yesterday’s game was an outlier and today’s is a sign of things to come, when we take care of the ball we are actually pretty good offensively.

3. Say what you want about Lamonte Turner yesterday or all season, but he showed fight today and it felt so good for the kid to see that shot go in at the end. You hope that maybe that is something that can get him going, it was also great to see the reaction from his teammates and the love they clearly have for Turner, no question about who is the heart and soul of this team.

4. Individually I thought Fulky and Bowden had nice bounce back games, I also thought both Johnson and Gaines did some nice things off the bench and probably earned some trust from their head coach this weekend. I’m very optimistic about Davonte Gaines’ future, he’s never gonna be a big dude, it’s just not in the cards, but he can definitely still be a very effective player and if he continues to develop that outside shot he’s gonna be nice. He showed the ball handling today bringing it up multiple times to help break the VCU press, you don’t see many kids his size doing that, looked a little like JP Prince out there.

5. We are 6-1 with 5 OOC games remaining before SEC play begins....Florida A&M and Jacksonville State at home should be gimmies, home also with Wisconsin and Memphis and the lone away game being at Cincinnati. There’s a good chance Tennessee will be favored in all 5 of those games, 10-2 definitely appears on the table and if you had offered that up preseason every single person would have taken it.

JJJ had one of his best games as well I thought. He made a couple of nice winning plays on both ends towards the end of the game.

I don’t think many.....if anyone really thought Tennessee would be 7-0 right now........being 6-1 is (I think) a very nice start to the season.......especially given Tennessee lost 4 starters from last year (including their best big, a great pg, & 2 all time great Tennessee players....1 being a 2x SEC player of the year).......and given the fact a few players left, and two are not eligible.

Tennessee is basically playing with one true PG and center........and pretty much getting it done.........they had a very terrible night, and still only lost (to a really good team) by 3.

I couldn’t be more proud of the team, Barnes and staff.

Top to bottom we dont have the most impressive roster and we are naturally going to lose some games here and there. But goodness, this team is much better than I expected. We have received more consistent production from Pons and Fulky than I think most thought we would.

And on the other side of the ball, we are better defensively than we were last year. James is a good defender and gets alot of rebounds and Pons protects the rim well now that he can be trusted on the court more. Overall I love the grit and will of this team when many were writing this year off as a rebuild. Good on them!

I think you’re overreacting to the overreacting.

Lamonte Turner is the most clutch player to ever wear the orange

Before you disagree name me the player with more game winners.

Maybe Loften ?

When he shoots a late game shot that matters, you almost expect it to go in. He has been unbelievably good his entire career at that. Our Robert Horry.

6-1 with great wins over #20 Washington, #20 VCU, and a very solid Murray State. Barely lost to FSU by 3 after worst game I’ve seen is play in years, which is a testament to how solid we are. When you can play as bad as we did against FSU and still almost come away with the win that still means something!!

Thanks for your post game takeaways. I always enjoy reading them.

Apologies for getting off subject but I didn’t think this deserved it’s own thread.

What kind of Cracker Jack invitational tournament doesn’t get legit network coverage? I thought I got every sports channel known yet still didn’t have CBSSN for last night’s game.

The app that carried tonight’s game was awful. The commentators sounded like I was watching a JV high school game. There was a mic somewhere around the rim that was turned up so loud it took over the broadcast.

How do these guys make money with that kind of coverage and te empty stands? I don’t get it.
