BTO’s Ole Miss postgame report

I thought we were very lucky to get that tie up call with Grant. Can they call a jump ball when you only have one hand on the ball??

to me it seemed like there were payback calls within the game...refs trying to do a balancing act...believe somebody from the SEC got in their heads...:D

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think it's part of our strategy to help down on drives from the ball side? We constantly do that and leave the guy open for easy kick out 3s. I've been taught since 6th grade to never help off shooters on the ball side. Maybe some token help but not full help. Bowden seems to be the worst at it and most of the time it's unnecessary help
Yes I do... after 27 games of it it’s no longer a mistake, it’s what they’re being told to do.

You are correct. It would have been corrected by now if it wasn't what he was supposed to be doing. We are intentionally trying to prevent penetration and daring teams to beat us from 3.

Also, the sequence with about 45 seconds left where Lamonte was guarding their PG is some of the best on ball defense you will ever see. He forced a bad pass that Bowden tipped, it went to half court, then they ended up with an offensive rebound. Outcome wasn't what we wanted, but that's textbook by Lamonte and Bowden.

I wonder if Kermit sees that behavior like throwing his jacket off and whining over calls/non calls on every possession encourages the fans to do things like bombing the court with trash. The fans were just following his lead.

Ole Miss fans don't need cues to act trashy. In over 50 years of attending SEC sporting events I have only been involved in altercations 2 times, and both were with Ole Miss students acting absolutely awful.

Imagine LSU's season. Nearly every one of their SEC games end like our game last night and they've won all but two of them. That's almost unimaginable.
One time I will be rooting for Bama - when LSU plays there this week and I hope the cheating LSU fan/ref does the game and the Bama students eat him alive

Doesnt the AD require flu shots ? Sure they arent 100% positive to work, but in most cases it wont be as bad

Yea, there have definitely been some “bad luck”/“bad bounces” it has seemed like of late in which our defense has been good but numbers maybe haven’t shown it because of some bad breaks.

I would be curious to see the numbers of season average verse tournament average but I wouldn’t be surprised if teams typically don’t shoot as well from deep in the NCAAT as they do at home or in even away regular season games...that’s not to say a team can’t get hot from 3, but do wonder if teams are likely to stop hitting 40%+ against us come postseason play.

I agree as you say Barnes just lost it. Just like Davis.

No big deal it happens
Davis didn’t bother me as bad as Wade. I felt like Davis had some legitimate gripes whereas Wade just cried for 45 minutes like a spoiled kid over every single call when the majority of which were heavily in his team’s favor. He hasn’t earned that long of a rope. Davis has put significantly more time in the profession. That said, Davis knew the jacket hurl would earn him a tech. He just didn’t care at that point, and if you ask him today, he’d likely agree it (the charge) was a good call.

The narrative of Kermit being a "whiny baby" by some on here is laughable. He knew he was up against it with the refs going into this game and acted like it throughout. The last play was a bang-bang play and he literally tossed his jacket off of reaction. He even apologized, even though in my opinion he did not owe one, in his press conference after the game.

I agree with everything but your last statement. Throwing the jacket was childish and he rightfully needed to apologize for embarrassing his university and team with that reaction. Hard to know how his actions influenced the fans who decided to start chucking trash on the court. Just an all-around bad look.

That said, his anger was justified in several instances, but his final reaction wasn’t. No coach should ever act like that.

I have been to a few Wade games and the way he carries himself is noticeably odd. To be honest the first time I had to check his bio because well my first impression was he probably wasn't married if you catch my drift. He's just an odd duck

Fair point. My reasoning is that a lot of coaches do it. Bruce did it, but everyone loved it because it showed his Tennessee "passion." Boeheim did it in Cameron a few years back and got T'd up after a controversial call.

How did he know what? Did the SEC call him beforehand and tell him the refs were going to favor Tennessee? Did he overhear the refs before the game discussing how to screw his players? How many games this season has a head coach pulled his jacket off and thrown it on the court?

Kermit Davis expressed regret for throwing his jacket in the final seconds and said ''that probably enticed the crowd so I apologize for that. I was just being competitive in the moment.''

Probably because Rick Barnes called out the officiating prior to the game.

No one it talking about it but had we lost we'd be looking at schofoelds free throw shooting. Those 3 pts lost were huge

He is odd, for sure.

Kermit was standing on the floor for about the last 10 minutes of the game. The ref has to warn him several times to back up. When we had the ball, it was like they had 6 men on the court to that side. On one occasion, Bowden or turner had to literally run around Davis to get the ball.
Another thing not being talked about much is the big shot by Bowden to bring it to 1 right inside the 3 point line. And the one before that which basically hit the bottom of the net then bounced out. Bowden will be fine.
After, We then fouled and Ole Miss finally missed a free throw which ended up breaking the camels back.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is if grant had missed that shot Bowden was going to clean is up with any kind of off side rebound. He was unchecked
