1. What a way to send the seniors out, that was a game that looked much like the early conference Tennessee we all got accustomed to seeing...we controlled the game, got a big lead and let the walk-on’s play the final couple minutes, very happy those guys got out there and able to enjoy their senior night.

2. Is the Tennessee defense back? After holding Kentucky to a 5 year low of 0.78ppp tonight we hold Mississippi State to 0.78ppp as well which ties their worst offensive output of the season which they had reached against Kentucky...and that was the #16 offense in the country per KenPom entering tonight. The Vols still have to do it consistently, but the last 2 games tell time that when this team is focused and motivated the elite defense we saw last year is in them, that’s a great sign.

3. If you want a negative I will point to the offensive slump, it’s not bad but it’s not where it was, is it as simple as shots just not currently falling? I do think that’s a big part. This is our 6th game in a row that we haven’t surpassed 1.10ppp, yet on the season we average 1.22ppp, so definitely cold of late. Bowden and Turner were a combined 1-8 from deep tonight, which runs their 6 current game total to 7-53 or 13%...the law of averages would say that’s near impossible for both guys to go that cold over 6 games, so I’m fairly confident they will soon snap out of it.

4. A lot of people are gonna scoff a bit at that win, but that win goes down as a Q1 win, and for a team that was lacking some headline wins that was a big one because it looks real good on the resume. Add in the fact that we pretty much led that game by 15+ more almost the entire 2nd half and that win looks really good on the resume with not much time left to add to your resume. I think that win pretty much solidifies Tennessee getting at least a 2 seed in the NCAAT and obviously keeps them in the conversation for a 1 seed with a big opportunity coming Saturday.

5. Hats off to Fulk, Johnson and Walker...those 3 guys have brought some solid minutes to the court the last couple games, if they can continue to do that especially in the 1st half of games that would be huge. Ideally we space those guys out so they aren’t out there together, but the way they’re playing they can be mixed in for spurts and give some guys some key rest heading down the stretch and hopefully will help give them some confidence heading into next year.

6. Maybe I should have led off with this, but if you couldn’t tell I was trying to avoid it for as long as possible, but here goes...Thank You Seniors. These guys came to Tennessee and helped build the foundation of what is looking like will become a Top 15 program, they have brought back fan interest to a level that I think only is they could have. I don’t think bringing in 4 one and done’s would have had the same impact on this fan base, the wins may have come just the same but watching these boys come to Knoxville and grow into men has brought the level of appreciation to another level that simply winning doesn’t accomplish. I don’t know what the future holds, but imo it’s going to be very hard to ever match the joy this group brought to myself, my father and many of the Vol fans I know who are close to me...we got to know these young men in a way that many top programs rarely get to know their star players, they represented the university with absolute class and they are men we can be proud of both on and off the court. Cherish every game that they play from here on out because who knows how many they have left, this season has absolutely flown by and I wish I could’ve slowed it down, I’m not ready to say goodbye to these seniors but here’s to hoping we’ve got at least 34 more days before we have to :)

GBO!!!

Great game by the guys tonight. I'm probably happiest for Alexander. That guy hasn't had a break lately. Shout out to the other seniors (I prefer calling them seniors instead of walk ons because they are far more valuable). Now it's time to finish this thing the right way. Go Vols!!!!

This was probably my third favorite game of the season, behind Saturday’s beatdown of UK and the win against #1 Gonzaga. Just an awesome game to send the seniors out, hammering a really solid Mississippi State team. And like you said, the bench looked great, Grant and Admiral did great, we won by 17 with Bone, Turner, and Bowden being a bit off. Thank you seniors!

When Turner harasses their point guard without fouling, it really is disruptive. Wish Bone would step up his on ball defense to that level also. That’s what CRB wanted to get from Pons but he’s a liability on offense. If Bone and Turner can do it throughout March then you have to like our chances to go deep into tournament

Turner has gotten soooo much better on defense it's a pleasure to watch now. He might not be making shots right now but he's changing games with his D

-Schofield let the game come to him. Felt like he tried to force things vs UK when his shot wasn't falling. His self-control tonight was encouraging.

-Alexander looked like the KA of January tonight, and it had everything to do with being able to stay on the court. 6 pts, 10 rebs, 4 blks is quite a night.

-We thoroughly dominated that game with Grant having the quietest double-double imaginable. 14 pts, 10 rebs, 3 assists, 2 blks, 2 stls, and I'd bet some hardly noticed.

-The pass by Bone to Alexander was a thing of beauty.

-Maybe the most impressive stat is that we outrebounded Miss. St.

-These seniors are pure class. Never a bit of trouble off the court. Responsible, well-spoken, respectful, and hard-working...exactly what college athletics should be about. They committed to a vision from a coach who had just been fired and carried it out. They are an example to their teammates, work in the community, and represent their university so well. They are winners all around. They represent everything that is missing in the one-and-done era, and I can comfortably say I'd rather cheer for guys like that to go 20-10 than cheer for a team of mercenaries to go 25-5. Watching these kids grow and investing our time in their development and growth is what makes college basketball fun. Thank you to those guys for being that and embracing the underdog role and overcoming it. I'm gonna miss them tremendously. Thank you, guys.

It's awesome to see it mean so much to those kids because it means so much to the fans.

BTO...first, thanks for your post games...I always enjoy them.

Second, you nailed it with thanks to the seniors. Those guys came in under a different staff, bought into what Barnes was bringing, and then grew up with this team. This team solidifies my view that one and done basketball is bad for the sport. Every fan base would rather watch this than Zion, I promise you. We know these kids, we love them for their flaws as much as their talents. Their “our” kids, they’re VFLs.

Third, I’ll take 10 more BTO post games please.

Agree, what really got me was they showed GW getting emotional when admiral got emotional, the love those guys have for each other is real.

Probably 2-300 hundred students behind the goal all dressed in black. I could never tell what they were chanting because I was on the other end of the areana but they left after haltime. I don't think many people at all
Noticed them and others filled the void they left immediately when they filed out

Like I said if they were protesting things I care deeply about and support I am glad they were barely noticed and failed.

Lol. I’m sure they’ll check with you next time to see if it’s ok to protest.

A photo of a couple of (white) UT students in charcoal masks with a caption that was something like “We’re Black now, time to get that free college!” has been circulating on social media. The chancellor has put out a statement condemning it, there were discussion panels had, I believe the person who posted it dropped out of the school, but some students are still really upset. There was a small march last Friday. Not sure what the protestors want UT to do though
