Pons was prob the best player on the floor tonight.

Don’t get me wrong, he isn’t the best player, but in that game.........he prob was for either team.

13 points, 10 rebounds, 50%, 3 blocked shots, 3 of 4 from the line and only 2 fouls given (vs all that size)....

Second most points for either team, most rebounds of either team, most blocks of either team.

Probably needed to shoot it a bit more.
Pons was a MAN on the floor tonight. (among Fla St. men) He seemed to be playing like "these guys don't scare me".

Liked Barnes' presser. Didn't throw them under the bus. Said he was proud of their fight to the end. Did call out Fulky and Bowden for hiding(not demanding the ball). didn't seem too upset with Turner. Said they'll learn from this.

Me either, but, we can not live with 21 turnovers and shooting under 40%. I think Gains earned more playing time with his play in the second half. We gave up a lot of TOS with predictable passes on offense. Still we played a physically superior team to the final seconds of the game. This team does not give up and will be a much better team by the SEC schedule comes around. Tonight’s game presents the opportunity to learn a lot of basketball. We have a coaching staff which will make us a good basketball team.
They better learn a lot by SEC time. They will see physically superior teams nearly the whole SEC season.

Josiah Jordan James has got to develop into more of an offensive threat so as to take the offensive pressure off Turner and Bowden.

I would like to see JJJ bring the ball up and pass it around and then head down to the lower block and post his defender up. I am hoping Barnes is saving this for SEC play. The size advantage that he should have on most guards should be in our favor.

Not sure why it is, but Fulkerson just gets some tough calls. Not only his last one where it looked like he was in better position. But there was another one where it looked like the FSU guy put an elbow in his back to get the rebound and then Fulk had to foul to recover.

Fulk just looks like he is in a panic all the time. Helter skelter best describes him on the court to me. I have noticed smooth player seem to get better results from the refs than the guys like Fulk who seem to be out of control aggressive. They just seem to have to foul to be effective. Though not always the case.

Pons was great, he had a couple of fantastic blocks, he also had another one that was called a foul even though he got all ball (the ball actually still went in by blocking straight in the air)
James just flat out can't shoot, but he was pretty effective at breaking the press and finding teammates.
I think we had 2 points from our bench. That's just not going to fly. Full stop, that has to be better.

If a guy "flat out can't shoot" why do you bring him in? You can be the best defender out there, but that is only 1/2 the game. It's hard for me to think anyone "hiring" a person would say "yeah he's my man" he can do half what I expect.

Well he defends well, passes well, and rebounds incredibly well. He just can't shoot. There's still value all the other aspects, but he'd be more valuable if he could score.

Eh...there’s quite a few teams who don’t turn it over much and still aren’t very good.
I'm not sure how you define subjective phrases like "quite a few" and "aren't very good", but I would love to know who these teams are that "don't turn it over much" that fit this definition. BTW, this is a rhetorical question.

Offense looks dysfunctional to me. Maybe it's just because of the turnovers and missed shots.
But it just seems like there isn't enough ball movement.

Our offense was dreadful. 4 guys positioned at the arc, and Fully buried in the paint and NEVER an inlet to him. Nobody ever flashed to the could line to out pressure in the center of the D. The only plan was apparently Lamonte beating his guy off the dribbled and dishing. Lamonte was terrible as a PG for the first 35mins. His lackidaisical passing seemed to infect everyone else. Shocking how many turnovers and how many unforced. That was game over

Now, in saying that, I have to give FSU a lot of credit for playing thier game and disrupting our O the way they did. Thier pressure caused most of this and kept our O out of sync all night. They ran fresh players at us for 40 minutes. Reminded me a little bit of CBPs controlled chaos days.

After watching a woefully undermanned Memphis team stymie us with pressure last season. Then AU totally wax us with Pearls chaos, I am shocked that no other teams use that strategy against us. Our ball handling was sub par last year and again this year. It is a weak point that can be exploited. FSU is built to do it and pulled it off.

GBO. Beat VCU and Vandy!

The lack of bench is going to be a huge problem because of foul trouble and fatigue and potential injuries

I think we'll be a much better team if James can take control at the point. If this new PG can provide steady relief and allow Barnes to move Turner off the ball, I think we'd be a bit better off.

Still doesn't address the lack of size/depth down low, but at least we'll have a punchers chance if the outside game is working. What I wouldn't give to have Plavsic eligible this season though.

At this point, UT is about who/what I thought they'd be. 16-18 wins was my forecast before the season starts. So far we're about where I thought we'd be and perhaps a bit ahead because I didn't see us taking UW. Turner and Bowden are not Grant and Admiral. I don't see the same ability to pick a team up and carry them to wins. They just don't appear to have the "it" factor like those two guys had. Like those two, I think our season will be "streaky". Never know. Might get hot at the right times and against the right opponent. Should be an interesting season to watch play out.
Jesus man.. We had an off game. Turner is in a brand new role as a solely a facilitator, compared to his previous roles as a PG to bring the ball up or a SG off-ball.

Bowden needs to get it together though. He’s gotta realize he’s the man now and get used to teams’ best defender.

Be patient.

Tennessee faced a more athletic team that played tremendous defense. Not sure what Barnes can do with a front line that has only one player that can compete (Pons) when they go up against atheletic Bigs. Fullkerson plays hard, but last night he was out matched physically. If you came away concerned with our backup point guard play let’s hope Barnes figures it out.

I’m not real sure either of the main guys on Fulk last night were “more athletic” than him......2 or 3 inches taller.....yea, but certainly not more athletic.

Tennessee needed, to make more of an effort to get the ball down low “some.”

Just by getting it down there you can open other things up, you can get some fouls......and I guarantee you can get “some” scores........those guys wee big, but they were not and are not “world beaters”.......heck Washington’s “bigs” are probably better.

I also feel Barnes agrees........they made a concerted effort tonight to get the ball down low. I know it’s a totally different team. However they went at it hard, and it worked.

Not saying it would have “worked” much last night, but it simply gives you many other options. And they didn’t even try.
