Then it will be a sad, sorry day for college football that a team who faced 1 or 2 challenges all year was allowed to rob a deserving team of a NC.

I doubt it ends any discussion.

Most people agree that the best team or two on a year to year basis from a non AQ school can hang with any team on a one-off basis.

The debate is that Boise is going to be in the NC game when their conference comprises of them, Fresno and the worst FBS has to offer outside of the Sun Belt.

Since when do you care about being fair?

Which is more impressive in your opinion...beating the second best team in the country or beating 2 or 3 top ten teams? This is all "what if's" anyway. IMO if BSU goes undefeated and two 1-loss teams go to the NCG over them it is a travesty. You seem to think otherwise.

That pretty much sums up your position, doesn't it? BSU is not deserving of a under any circumstances they can control, period.

to me, if there are at least 2 teams undefeated then those teams did was was asked if them,,,put them together to play for the NC.
if you have 5 one loss teams and 2 no loss teams, why in the hell would you put 2 1 loss teams together to play?
oh yeah..MONEY!!!
tell me this..what would be the better game.
an undefeated Iowa VS an undefeated UCLA for the NC
or and undefeated TCU VS an undefeated Florida?
I would bank it all on that more people would watch TCU and Florida than Iowa/UCLA.

Maybe there should be a "best of the rest" conference, comprising BSU, TCU, etc...

Well the thats where we will agree to disagree. What I dont understand is the fact that they were ranked pre-season number 3, but with thier strength of schedule how do they stay on top? Whats to keep every teame in the top ten from leapfrogging them every week do to thier weak schedule?

Beating 3 top 10 teams is clearly more impressive. That's my whole point, Boise shouldn't get a shot at a NC simply because of what they did on one night in early September. That may be their only chance to impress, but that's just reality. A college football NC shouldn't be a handout, it should be earned.

Exactly, a team like Ohio State could finish the year unbeaten without a single win as impressive as a win over Virginia Tech. However, big wins aren't necessarily what makes going unbeaten so special, it's the fact that they can say they didn't slip up through their entire season. OSU doesn't have the hardest schedule, but there are plenty of teams that could trip them up if they play poorly on the wrong day. Boise just doesn't have that.

It may be circumstances that they can't control, but that's just too bad for them. Why should the BCS throw them a bone? Once again, the college football NC isn't a charity. If you don't consistently play top competition throughout the season, then you don't deserve a shot at a NC IMO.

I'll certainly give you that. This win impressed me more than any of their other big wins, including the Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma a few years ago. I know they had VT's attention, and they won. They definitely deserve credit for that.

Tonight was a solid win for them, but one good win shouldn't make a season. If Boise plays for a NC, that will unfortunately be the case.

So why not let Bama or whoever earn it from BSU? Why should they get out of having to play what could be the second best team in the country?

...hmm, let me guess, they can't control who the BCS picks?

SOS isn't a component anymore. In the end, that's all your argument is: opinion. There isn't a fair way to exclude Boise State from contention, and if a sport isn't fair then then it isn't a sport.
