Bryce Brown?

With Montario playing out of his mind last year, there wasn't 15-20 carries a game available for Bryce as a freshman, especially in SEC play.
Kiffin did all he could to give the job to BB early. Not only could BB not take it... his meaningful carries diminished. That tells me that even CLK realized he wasn't as good coming in as they thought. OTOH, he wasn't willing to give those carries to Poole who IMHO seemed to do more to earn them. Maybe it was a recruiting calculation or maybe BB was better in practice and just couldn't translate it to games. However Poole looked alot more like an SEC level back in limited opportunities than BB did.
I'd say 4.6 yards a carry and over 400 yards rushing is a solid way to kickoff a college career as a true freshman.
Over half those yards came against the 4 worst teams UT played. Over 100 came against WKU.

We would miss Bryce for sure if he decided to transfer.
I agree with this. I think he has talent and hope he develops into a great RB. UT needs quality depth at the position.

I just do not agree that he is heads and shoulders better than Oku and Poole. Both of them have shown SEC level vision and cutting. Poole has shown effective power. I think Williams and Neal have talent also.

Agreed

Also, coach Douche Bag raved so much about how great BB was that maybe he gave him playing time over others, such as Poole and Oku who both looked very good when they got into games. Don't forget Coach Douche Bag was all about himself and how could he be wrong about anything that came out of his mouth?

Having BB as the #2 RB wasn't necessarily a bad calculation. It didn't follow the rule that the best player plays... but it did provide a selling point. I'd say BB didn't have to beat out Poole... he just had to beat out the rest of the Freshmen that played offense.

UT needs Bryce Brown bigtime next year---if he leaves, it will leave a big hole in the offense. Dooley needs to really suck up to him to keep him happy.

I disagree. Dooley needs to give all running backs the same opportunity. If Brown does not prove to be the best back or is even in 3rd place behind Poole and Tony Williams or maybe Oku, then so be it. It is what it is. I want the best RB in there, I don't care who they are.

Let the best player play, that's how I see it. I do hope BB lives up to his potential this yr though if not I have full faith in Poole and IMO will be battling BB the entire spring and summer for the starting spot.

Thanks Volfan8282. It says a great deal about a person when they're willing to change their point of view IMO. You presented your POV well... Iron sharpens iron in debate.

Even if we had not agreed, the exercise of challenging our beliefs and opinions is healthy.

BTW, do you actually have an opinion about Bryce Brown? I can't remember.

Just trying to read the situation and scant comments from afar... I'd say it is either much ado about nothing or he's already made up his mind. "Wait and see" (if he said it) is usually what someone says when they've made up their mind and are just waiting to take action. If that's the case, it isn't a lost cause... but close.

I don't know about Brown. I hope he sticks around. I think he has star potential, and you can never have too many running backs. But, I can understand if he wanted to leave to go play with his brother. The circumstances changed here at UT with Kiffin leaving, and, as much as some people harp against this, a LOT of kids choose a school based on a coaching staff. I would wish him well if he chose to leave, but I kinda doubt he will in the end.

I agree.

Who is to say that if CDD "kissed up to him", Poole/Williams/Oku get upset because of not getting a fair chance and the BB gets hurt early on?

IMO, we will be fine either way.

Peace out *chunks da deuce*

I think Im one of the few who never was impressed

I was with you. He may become great but I never saw him do the things great backs do. I have argued that his playing time was in part a function of Kiffin wanting to make a recruiting statement.

I agree, I was hoping it was that hip injury but he never impressed me.

He was ok.... but If he actually transfers. ...all we lost was his potential.

The last orange and white game there were 2 backs that did a lot better than Brown did. Always wondered why he got the job, but the recruiting statement sounds like something that X would do for a recruiting statement.
