Bryce Brown Gone

This point is always muddled by the fact that Bryce can go *wherever he wants* if he pays for that year of school. It's only the scholarship itself that doesn't transfer. People seem to get really obsessed with transfer blocking, etc. but in the end he's still a student and if he sits out and pays for one year of school himself he can transfer wherever he wants in the NCAA (as long as he meets admission requirements) and then the new school can add him to their scholarships the season after that.

Besides, I'm sure the money Kiffin and Orgeron gave him to sign with UT plus what he'll get if he went to USC would more than cover it. :wink2:

Wohh.....what? They paid him?

Off topic - I know that is frowned on here - but

Is that AD Hamilton(?) (Guy who hired you know who) still the AD at Tennessee? Seems like he backed everything (you know who) did and cleaned up for him left and right....

What was he supposed to do? Throw his own hand picked guy under the bus?

1998 UT National Championship team = No Top Star. Team played as a unit. Watching La Tech and seeing what Dooley did w/ that talent against top tiered football teams makes me optimistic. I imagine w/ the talent Dooley has to work w/ this season he'll get the team turned in the right position. It is not going to be over night / or this upcoming season. Loosing BB will hurt. But...Poole, Oku, Williams, and now Neale will run hard and be motivated. Let the competition begin. I'll take heart any day!

Anyone who blames this on CDD personally is an idiot

Agreed!! Everyone that wants a fix now for what Kiffin did to us is an idiot. Its going to take some time for Dooley to bring the team together. Some of them want it to still be Kiffins way and some want the coach to keep spoiling these kids instead of making them grow up and be men. If he doesn't understand how great it is to Play for Tennessee then let him walk but don't blame Dooley. I haven't seen our team in the news yet for legal issues.

I would rather take a few years to grow as a good well rounded team. Now thats a group of guys to cheer for!!!

His brother left Miami after two subpar years and now is on his way to KSU... Bryce always wanted to play with his brother, so he is probably on his way back too...

Dont need him, his hip injury may turn out to be worse than expected. we are deep at RB and I "feel" BB will not even be missed. I was unimpressed with him last year. Just my opinion.

I believe he can be on scholarship at a transfer school next year.

Provided he completes the spring semester at UT and thus fulfilling the "year" requirement of the LOI. You can't block him by not releasing him from the LOI as he will have fulfilled the requirement of the LOI.

You might be able to refuse to release him from the scholarship but scholarships are year to year. Again, think once he finishes the spring semester but can't restrict his transfer.

I will never get used to being sub par. Vince's boy is starting to make me nervous. Crap. I want a 10-win consistant program.

This is UT's problem. You will NEVER be a 10-win consistent program. It's not even your fault because the facilities, resources and history are there. But TN, as in the state, is not a hotbed of football talent. That coupled with scholarship limitations and more and more football programs cropping up hurts more and more.

Back to the thread, I was looking forward to seeing BB as the lead guy in Knoxville this year.

if you're going to start throwing out crap like that you better have a source

No source is necessary.

Given the context, it was already facetious. Then it was admitted plainly afterwards that it was facetious. It was meant to tag along with the post that transfer blocking is not all people make it out to be.

I did not assume people would seriously believe that I was actually claiming it happened. I'm just saying that given the news bestowed on our program in the last year (originated by Kiffin or otherwise), it would not become a shocking revelation to me if it were true.

I am not searching this forum, is BB still on the team or is he officially gone?

Neither. He is currently not a part of the team but he is still enrolled at UT through the spring semester. He COULD come back. That's still a possibility though right now it's looking like a slim one.

The official unofficial is that his parents have been on him to come back close to home since just before the end of last semester.

Was just wondering what everyone thought the odds were that Bryce returns. It doesnt sound good.Im not going to bash the kid because i dont know what hes going through.I for one hope he can work things out and come back. You never can have too many tailbacks.Even if he is not the starter a player of his caliber is only going to push the other tailbacks to be the best they can be.

Just to clarify this issue. UT only requires athletes to sign a 1 yr scholarship. The student athlete must come back every year and resign the scholarship letters to renew their scholarship. The reason for this is if the school offers someone a 4 yr scholarship (like they used to) if the player quits the team the school is still required to provide the scholarship. So to protect scholarship UT (and many other big schools) have their student athletes resign their financial aid agreements every year.

The reason a student has to sit out a year has nothing to do with money. It is the transfer rules per the NCAA rule book. It is in place to prevent the chaos of players transferring every time they are unhappy and to prevent recruiting of other teams players. The year you have to sit out is to discourage transferring, the scholarship has nothing to do with sitting out.

So if Bryce transfers to another D1 school he would sit out a year, regardless.
