I think the govols article pretty much summed it up:

By just about every account, Brown, the former No. 1 recruit in the country, would be welcomed back by the Vols should he decide to return - and a verdict could be out as early as Monday. But if Brown does rejoin the team, he'll do so without the benefit of spring practice, a summer of sprints up Locust Street or the brutal workouts from strength coach Bennie Wylie that have chiseled the Vols.
"I mean, you could go (into the season without it)," Stocker said. "But you're not going to be where we're at.

Based on comments from coach Derek Dooley at SEC media days on Friday, the expected outcome from a looming meeting with Brown still seems to be him asking for a release.

Brown saga might be nearing end GoVolsXtra

I don't really think the criticism of BB is warranted. This guy is under tremendous pressure from his family, friends, and others to make a decision. Very few of us on here know what it is like to go through that. If he leaves, I wish him the best of luck. It would be nice if he stayed and gave us some good depth, but you can't force him to do so imo.

It really isn't. He said what he had to say months ago. Since then, all this drama has been a result of the bush league media operation that has been covering it and quite possibly the most desperate, gullible, paranoid fanbase in the country.

I agree. This is becoming more apparent every passing day.

A little cruel . . . but more true than we'd like to admit.

I think most of them hang out in here.

i agree with your point, overall, but many were saying pretty much the same thing when the rumor of getting a USC player was out there. how did that turn out?

The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that the saga could come to an end as early as Monday. Whether running back Bryce Brown will remain a Vol or transfer is still up for debate.

The Sentinel's Austin Ward talked with tight end Luke Stocker who said the biggest obstacle for Brown if he does decide to return is the lack of conditioning work Brown will have had entering fall camp. But Ward writes that it shouldn't keep Brown out of the lineup, considering his role as a freshman backup to starter Montario Hardesty.

Check back and we'll let you know more if and when an official announcement is made after Brown's meeting with Derek Dooley.

---

A Knoxville radio station apparently reported (courtesy this tweet from ESPN Recruiting's Justin Hopkins) on Wednesday afternoon that RB Bryce Brown will be in Knoxville on Thursday to meet with the Tennessee staff. Reportedly, neither Brown nor his brother, Arthur, are terribly thrilled with the idea of transferring to Kansas State, their long-rumored destination. However, their father supposedly does want them closer to home and, in this case, is not in favor of Bryce's returning to the Vols.

Jimmy Hyams of The Sports Animal in Knoxville has also reported that Arthur Brown may prefer to return to Miami -- if he's welcome there -- rather than entering K-State by himself. (He's still enrolled in a juco and has not signed up for classes in Manhattan.)

Could this get any juicier? There were reports in May of a possible package deal for the brothers at Tennessee; given the continued low numbers for Derek Dooley, is this something that might still be on the table?

Well, he seems like a whole heap of trouble. And at this point I'm not even sure I'm dying for the guy. if he is that far behind in conditioning, Poole might still start.

Will Bryce and the university announce the decision jointly, or contact the media first and let the story come out that way about the announcement?

Where do you get this opinion? I don't get it. He's a good kid, good student, and has kept his nose clean. Certainly more than we can say for some other "prized" recruit.
