Talked with Erik Ainge plenty of times. He came to me for pizza. Met Jon Hefney and Bret Smith, and I knew Hefney's face, but not Smith (this was 2004). I was like "HEF!" and as they left, Hef pointed at Smith and yelled "BRET SMIF! BRET SMIF!"

Met Candace Parker and Stanley Asumnu together.

Got Bret Hart's stretchy sunglasses at a house show in Knoxville.

Cedric Houston made fun of me for an entire 5 minute walk after one of our classes. We watched a movie in class, so I slept. We walked out and he said "Maaaan you slept the entire time." Then we went outside and the sun was so bright, and I was rubbing my eyes. He was laughing so hard and said "Maaaaaaaaan you still sleepin!"

Vince Dooley, when I was a kid, was at East Town Mall and saw my mother and I in the pet store with UT clothes on (it was a UT-UGA weekend) and he said without knowing us "I hope you're lookin for a bulldog."

Saw Joe Morgan at Oakland International last week at baggage claim but didn't talk to him.

Fist pounded Kirk Herbstreit at the Cal game as he arrived from his red eye flight.

Met Dick Vitale at a speaker conference at TBA when I was a kid.

worked the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament two years ago. Was in charge of giving the college coaches and the media their free credentials. I talked with so many college coaches, but most notably CBP for a good 15 minutes. He was quite busy catching up with some UW-Milwaukee coaches and what not, but took the time to talk with me and it was quite cool. Talked with Jim Donnan for a good 30 minutes with a buddy in our hotel a couple years ago at the maryland peach bowl disaster. met other players and coaches, but those two stand out more than most.

This has been one of my all time favorite threads so far.

A friend of mine was at Cracker Barrel one Sat. Morning...the week of Sept. 11th when the games where cancelled in 2001.
My friend was by himself.
John Cooper was supposed to be doing a game at KY that week. He decided to come on down to Knoxville because he was to speak at the Monday QB club.
John Cooper invited him over to sit with him and have breakfast.
Cooper was a great guy.

People who tell you John Hannah was one of the best offensive linemen of all time are telling you the 100% truth.

I still remember not really thinking it was a big deal to meet some of the players while at UT but it's really pretty amazing looking back.

2 of my favs:
I grew up a few houses down from JJ McCleskey and used to play backyard football with him. I was a bit younger than him but he was always a good guy. I actually saw him in AZ when I moved there and he still remembered who I was.

Fuad Reviez was my soccer coach when I was 10yo. Carlos also coached a team in the league. He went to the Dolphins soon after the season but I still have some great pics.

I talked to Joe Kines at our local Touchdown Club last night . . . I have no earthly idea what he said . . . .but I talked to Joe Kines.

...and I can report that the video of his famous halftime interview last year at their bowl game was no act. He really does talk like that.

I travel every week for my job and started flying out of K-town instead of Asheville, and Bruce Pearl was on the flight sporting the orange and white. The other week when I was in Atlanta I ran in Troop Taylor, god I love my job.

but did you speak to him...you know...game plan and all....?

not Shoney's

my Dad owned the old Ramsey's on UT Campus

Did he used to host luncheons with famous athletes there? If so, I ate lunch there when Pete Rose was the speaker sometime in the 80s - I was young. And, I think, also went there for a KHS baseball player of the week award.

My boss at the place I worked through undergrad used to take us to Ramsey's after work most Sundays, his treat. I hate that they moved, but I have been since a couple of times and it is still good.

Lester Flatt, I didn't think anybody remembered him.
He was my uncle's brother-in-law.

How could we forget Lester Flatt?

Well, for those who are fans and those who aren't, check out this bizarre combination of musicians on David Letterman (including Earl Scruggs and Steve Martin...yes, that Steve Martin) tearin' it up with a little "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." My dad is a bluegrass man who still lives in our hometown of Crossville,TN, and I guess I heard him play this tune on banjo at least a thousand times growing up. I'm sure he still plays it daily.

I met Tim Tebow once at a bathroom at the Gainseville Airport. He kept tapping my foot so much I thought he was learning how to tap dance.
