Can you imagine? The absolute animal that Barnes has built here only to hire someone of those likes? I would be so depressed seriously. Tennessee is such a prestigious program now, hiring someone unproven or suspect would be a disservice, those days are over.

Heupel was 28-8 at UCF and 19-5 in conference in 3 years. You might not have been excited when he was hired but I was.

I don’t get this response. Auburn just had an 11 year run under Bruce that brought the program out of the literal gutter….

Take the emotions out of it, no sane or person with a pulse would have passed on Bruce in 2014 if he said after an 10+ year run and a final four appearance, they’d have his son take over as head coach…. Looney tunes for anyone who says they would have passed.

Like another scenario. If you told me we’d get Barnes this long and his successor would be someone like Justin Gainey for 2-3 seasons, Id say hell yes. This is like Duke or UNC or Kansas or Kentucky handing over the program to the coach’s kid. It’s Auburn

I know I'm not the only one predicting this to go horribly but I just wanted to make sure and get on the record.

The timing (which makes sense, given the potential Senate run) of this is really fascinating to me. That said, I'm not nearly as low on Steven Pearl as you guys are. Not necessarily saying that he's going to be Coach K or even Bruce, but he has a fair bit of upside and seems to resonate well with players/recruits.

Bottom line is he’s a completely unproven commodity as he has zero head coaching experience. We shall see how it goes!

Correct. The first big test that will be visible for everyone to see is if there are any roster changes. My guess is they don’t make this move right now unless they knew the locker room would stay together.
