Bruce Pearl To Retire from Auburn

I find this trend of coaches retiring right before the season starts to force the university to give their preferred assistant a shot at the job pretty nauseating to be honest. Not that I care that much here because this will be hilarious.
I think this has been the plan for a while. Could be wrong though.

Eh. I disagree. I don’t think any coach, regardless of how successful, should have that right because most of the time it’s a huge miss. You should have input, but the decision shouldn’t be yours. I don’t want Rick picking his successor either.
Sure, but Auburn went from maybe the worst SEC program of all time to a yearly national title contender under Pearl. They essentially owe their entire program to him. On top of that, their AD leadership has been bottom of the barrel nationally since Jay Jacobs left nearly a decade ago, so I have zero faith they’d make a decent hire here. I personally think it’s very worth it for Auburn to let him name his successor, even if just to keep Pearl happy as an ambassador of the Auburn basketball program.

100%. It’s similar to what Tennessee baseball was before Vitello took over.

Sounds like he’s running for the Senate if this is happening. Going to be really interested to see how Nepo-Baby Steven performs this year how that daddy isn’t there to help him with his career.
I honestly don’t understand why anyone would willingly go into politics, especially when they already have a great job.

Didn’t Auburn have a semi professional commit to them this offseason? Believe his name was Jovic. Will be interested to see if anybody makes a run for him now.

My immediate first thought. I’d be just fine with him taking the baton from Barnes. Let’s do this!

He’s 65….you would be fine with him taking a few years off and then being hired as our next head coach at the age of 67 or 68? For what, 2-3 years maximum of coaching if we’re lucky?
