A slam on the state of KY!
Pearl was asked why did he think a KY newspaper's article was so inaccurate in it's quotes from Lofton about not making the PanAm team. At first Pearl didn't bite, but then Dave Hooker said something like "but why do you think they could have misinterpreted the quotes so badly" in a joking way that made me think he was wanting Pearl to take a shot. And Pearl obliged by saying something like "well Dave, I've heard rumors that they may not hear so well in Kentucky, read so well, and write so well and that that's because their educational system isn't up to par with what we have here in TN". Of course everyone laughed especially Hooker since he set it up.

Evidently thinking KKK!
Pearl also made a remark at the motivational speakers conference in Knoxville a couple of months ago. He was discussing what it takes to coach kids from different backgrounds & cultures. He talked about having kids from the inner cities that "live in the hood" & kids from Kentucky "where they wear the hood." Pearl is brilliant. Classic quote.

I have no link...so take it for what it's worth

That is from the Scout.com Tennessee Message Board. Someone from the University of Memphis found it on the UT Scout board, and then posted it on the memphistigers.org board. After which, it was posted on the ESPN.com college message board. There is no link (that I can find) to the second instance, but the first did happen on a Kentucky Sports radio station. It was a joke, set up by the DJ.

But yes. Bruce Pearl is very Steve Spurrier.

Yeah, he knows how to win.

Pearl has the potential at UT to be very successful. But until he actually wins an SEC title or a national championship, a comparison to Spurrier is premature. Having said that, in terms of raw ability to rankle people, Pearl is right up there!

I used to make the Pearl-Spurrier comparison. But, honestly, can you picture Bruce being caught with his pants down on a golf course? Can you picture him making threats against his own university that he will leave if something isn't corrected? I think there is a difference in class IMO. The only comparison could be in the one-liners and Spurrier is still the best in the business when it comes to that...

Absolutely. If UT hadn't commited to building a practice facility, Bruce would be residing in Iowa City now.

No practice facility, no Bruce Pearl. It's really a simple equation.

It is very simple but wrong none the less. You grossly overestimate Iowa being desireable for Pearl. The University still needs to show Pearl its committed that goes without saying but the practice facility was not the deal breaker in that discussion.

Yes, it would have been.

Name another job that came open this offseason he would have gotten.

Who said he would have left this year? Could have waited it out one more year or even left the previous year if he was frustrated enough. But for this year.. no other team really unless KY was seriously considering him (which I doubt) and he already said he wouldn't leave for another SEC school.

Plus Iowa just isn't a very appealing school (unless you're coming up in the ranks of course).

Pearl would not have hung around for another year working for an adminsitration that, had they failed to come through with the practice facility, blatantly lied to him.
