Bruce Pearl showing TN some love

A large portion of Neyland's wins came from non-quality opponents (claiming wins over Maryville college is a joke). When looking at quality of competition, Fulmer is by far the best coach in UT history.

You need to do a little more research on General Neyland and his teams buddy.

Just a few tidbits

112 of his all time 173 victories came by SHUTOUT.
In 1939, his defense held every opponent faced that year scoreless. 17 straight games, they gave up 0 points.
4 nattys
9 undefeated seasons

You do realized in the early 20th centuraly Maryville, Sewanee, Vanderbilt and Tulane were world beaters?

In fact, the best college team ever built was a Sewanee team... that destroyed Tennessee and several other current SEC teams, right?

This is not the same era. But what Neyland understood then is why great teams win now. Speed, then intelligence, then strength, then everything else for players.

1898, they beat 6 teams in seven days. Considered the best team ever.

Still a VFL... and I don’t care what you think about the man, he still loves TN.

Bruce is the epitome of class. I hope some of what is being speculated about him regarding all of the FBI stuff is overblown and he is able to keep coaching.

I'll never get the Bruce Haters. Will always respect him and like him for what he did here. If we had to share a title, glad its with him.

Agreed. There is no doubt that Bruce made one terrible mistake during that investigation, but it was like lying about jaywalking. That should have been part of the consideration. i have nothing but respect and fond memories for the greatness he brought to our program.

People are upset with Bruce because he screwed up a good thing at the end by lying. People are upset with Phil the coach for knocking the football team off it's lofty perch by becoming a lazy coach and recruiter at the end with two (2) losing seasons in four (4) years.

Phil's the AD now. Hope he goes down as the greatest AD in UT history.

You called Coach Fulmer Phat (and you did not mean that in a good way). Take a lap.

Bottomline, nice gesture by Pearl whether you like or respect him...I happen to both like and respect him overall. I guess maybe I just know how many mistakes that i've made in my lifetime?

He was rooting for the gators to beat us in our last match up, even said "go gators". He's a man of the moment and that's about it imo. Did good things here but is more focused on the center of attention.

Neyland never lost to Bear Bryant so he must have been pretty good.

Now, someone please explain to the know-it-all millennials who Bear Bryant is for me.

Bruce is the man. He lied about throwing a bbq, and for that we fired him. Happy to have Barnes, but I don’t see him ever painting his chest for the Lady Vols or hanging out with students at baseball games

It's amazing how so many people's memory has faded on the Pearl situation. The final straw wasn't Pearl lying about a BBQ. That was found out in summer of 2010 and was why the SEC gave him the eight game suspension. The final straw was him making contact with recruits and lying about Brian Williams susposed back injury, at the end of the season, when it was actually a suspension for another failed drug test. He couldn't get out of his own way.

As much as he loves us why would he not root for us to lose when we are his direct competition?
