As much as I wish it was true, I seriously doubt it is.

and I would also like to remind everyone that, at least for the time being, the Magic have a head coach.

Yeah I thought so. Plus they are making a good run in the playoffs. I just saw this rumor and thought it was wierd and was wondering if anyone else had heard it.

Didnt Pearl just get a bigger contract or something

That's an awful lot of coin for a marketing guy.

That would be an idiotic move by Orlando, to say the least.

This would be more believable if it was say .... the Clippers. I think this is another bs rumor.

And I think Pearl would be a horrible NBA coach. Pearl's biggest coaching asset (that I've noticed so far) is his ability to get less heralded/talented players to play above their heads. He's an underdog coach. Most NBA players don't see themselves as underdogs, and most aren't going to fall for his inspirational diatribes. He's yet to really impress me with his play calling, adjustments, and game management on a consistent basis -- all of which are crucial in the NBA.

The only reason I could see an NBA team hiring Pearl is his salesmanship. Which, on second thought, might be enough .... for a while.

Um... that Magic are in a playoff series with Boston right now and I seriously doubt they are entertaining thoughts of hiring a new coach. I think they are quite pleased with what Stan VanGundy is doing.

Fail.

After last night, either Van Gundy or Dwight Howard pretty much has to go now unless they somehow regroup and beat Boston. And maybe even if they do. But no way Pearl is on any NBA team's shortlist.

Very true. Although I heard that he was on the Wizards for a short amount of time.

Bottom line is, his system isn't going to work in the NBA.

any team relying, right now, on Howard as an offensive option is going to suck. His offensive game is comparable to Shaq's, but he doesn't have the size / braun to get to the hole like Shaq did. Hence, he has to rely on his touch from 5 feet and in, which is an utter disgrace.

Don't disagree, but I just don't see how you can keep both of them after Howard cut his coach's balls off like that. And it's never the player that gets the boot in these situations, is it?
