Bruce Feldman's Top 10 Coaches on the hot seat

Unless he just comes in, takes a dump on the podium at his opening press conference, and then quits, it's essentially impossible that Jon Gruden could be a worse coach than Derek Dooley.

That's adorable, you think Gruden is actually going to come here?

Well what if his wife isn't hot?

I think the crap at the podium remark was in response to the assertion that anyone who thinks Gruden could do better than Dooley is delusional, not whether he would come to UT or not. I'm just trying to keep up.

Did I lie? Preseason hot seat lists had Dooley at either #1 or #2, every one that I saw at least. So indeed, his seat is cooler if it is at #5.

Maybe his seat didn't get cooler. Maybe his stayed the same, but the other coaches seats got hotter. That could be another theory.

5. Derek Dooley, Tennessee: He inherited a mess and, no question, the Vols are in better shape now than when he arrived from La. Tech. That's the good news. The bad: his teams haven't beaten anyone good yet. He's 0-19 all-time against ranked opponents. Getting blown out in the second half at home by a young UF team last month really stings. The Vols had the place in Knoxville rocking that day. Their offense was loaded with upperclassmen and experienced starters. The upshot is UT fans -- and Vols brass -- have to wonder, "Iif we can't beat the Gators now, when?" This week is Dooley's best shot to lower the heat. They visit No. 19 Mississippi State, a team that hasn't beaten anyone yet. The Vols also have beaten MSU six straight times. A win over the three-point favorites won't definitely save Dooley's job, but at least it's a start. That, and winning the last four regular-season games plus a bowl win would seem like enough to get to 2013.

Dear Negavols/NegaDools,

I can't recall seeing one post from anyone that says Dooley is perfect and we are playing perfect football. I have seen a ton of posts that don't even come close to acknowledging that we are in better shape than when he arrived.

Saying he is #5 on a hot seat list only acknowledges that Vol fans are long on expectations but some are short on patience...possibly reasonable patience...or maybe even intelligence...

That said, I do think we need to (and will) beat the Bullies!

Well we are not alone. I heard on Sirius College radio tonight that fans want both Chizek and Richts heads and jobs. Fans are fanatical.

Richt is safe for now, IMO, if GA doesn't have a meltdown.
Chizek on the other hand probably is gone after this season, along with Joker Phillips, John L Smith, & possibly CDD if he doesn't win Saturday night and one of the last 4 games. I believe Hart senses we lose to Bama & USCe, but DD MUST win the last 4 after USCe to have a chance of keeping his job if he loses to MSST. I am a Dooley supporter just trying to look at it realistically.

Personally I think we have a shot at both Bama & USCe. :twocents:

FMP...My bad.

All I'm saying is that nobody knows if the man can coach college football. If you all think the situation would be better if we fired Dooley at the end of the season and hired someone like Gruden then you are apparently living in a fantasy land. I agree that if Dooley can't get it done by the end of next season and not this season then we need to look at our options. We are just now back to 85 scholarship players lets not go back down again. The bad thing is that if Dooley was doing this at Vanderbilt or Kensucky then he would be given a raise. At Tennessee he is under constant fire for having a losing season last year because of injuries and that gauntlet of a schedule and this year for losing to 2 teams who are good teams. Remember UGA was in the top 5 when we played them and now Florida is too. We still have many opportunities to right this season and it starts saturday night.
I am so glad u don't have power at Tennessee. If we keep Dooley past this year, and the team keeps going down the loser road there might not be a proud program to keep to tell recruits about( none of them rember 98 like us) This isn't Kentucky or Vandy we don't have history of losing and the mere fact that u put us in the sentence with these losers we might need to make a move now. Last but not least Gruden is a damn good coach. He was at tuck play away from being in a superbowl with raiders when the impossible ownership of Al Davis was alive had one losing season at Tampa and got fired when he had a winning season.

True, but it did get cooler in terms of ranking. Was just a joke anyways, some take things too serious.

Yes Dooley's seat got cooler by still not managing to win any meaningful games. It's amazing!

Here at Tennessee you can not win any games and we will support you 100%!!!

GBO, VFL!!!!

IMO, the term "hot seat" is over used in college football. Heck this day and time, one lost and any coach in the nation is automatically on the hot seat..even the great Nick Saban, if his team loses one came fans will be calling for his job, because in this day in time, ur either undefeated or not a good coach according to some people around here.

@ Fallguy, ur avatar is definetly not overratted though!

a young UF team?

UF offense
QB So
TB Sr
WR 1 Sr 1 Jr 1 So
OL 1 Sr 3 Jr 1 So
TE 1 Jr

UF defense
DE 1 Sr 1 Jr
DT 1 Jr
NT 1 Sr
LB 1 Sr 2 Jr
CB 2 So
S 1 Sr 1 Jr

College Player Database - Depth Chart

I wonder why he would think they are any younger than we are?

Edit: forgot their TE

I think they were referring to game experience here. We have more guys who have played a lot more snaps than they have. We expected to win and didn't.. That is why it sucks so bad
