5. Derek Dooley, Tennessee: He inherited a mess and, no question, the Vols are in better shape now than when he arrived from La. Tech. That's the good news. The bad: his teams haven't beaten anyone good yet. He's 0-19 all-time against ranked opponents. Getting blown out in the second half at home by a young UF team last month really stings. The Vols had the place in Knoxville rocking that day. Their offense was loaded with upperclassmen and experienced starters. The upshot is UT fans -- and Vols brass -- have to wonder, "Iif we can't beat the Gators now, when?" This week is Dooley's best shot to lower the heat. They visit No. 19 Mississippi State, a team that hasn't beaten anyone yet. The Vols also have beaten MSU six straight times. A win over the three-point favorites won't definitely save Dooley's job, but at least it's a start. That, and winning the last four regular-season games plus a bowl win would seem like enough to get to 2013.

This was for all the Sunshine pumpers who think it is only the posters on the message boards saying Dooley is in trouble.

I am not a Dooley supporter, but I thought NC St was ranked in the Top 25 when we beat them.

Well reasoned evaluation. Dooley needs to do something significant THIS year.

I hope he does, but he hasn't yet. A good coach would win with a lead at halftime. Fooley hasn't done that against a good team.

To all the Grudenites out there it's not going to happen and to tell you the truth who knows if he would even be better than Dooley. The guy IMO was an mediocre to average coach in the pros. Why don't we play the last 7 games on the schedule before we fire the guy.

Unless he just comes in, takes a dump on the podium at his opening press conference, and then quits, it's essentially impossible that Jon Gruden could be a worse coach than Derek Dooley.

All I'm saying is that nobody knows if the man can coach college football. If you all think the situation would be better if we fired Dooley at the end of the season and hired someone like Gruden then you are apparently living in a fantasy land. I agree that if Dooley can't get it done by the end of next season and not this season then we need to look at our options. We are just now back to 85 scholarship players lets not go back down again. The bad thing is that if Dooley was doing this at Vanderbilt or Kensucky then he would be given a raise. At Tennessee he is under constant fire for having a losing season last year because of injuries and that gauntlet of a schedule and this year for losing to 2 teams who are good teams. Remember UGA was in the top 5 when we played them and now Florida is too. We still have many opportunities to right this season and it starts saturday night.

Well we are not alone. I heard on Sirius College radio tonight that fans want both Chizek and Richts heads and jobs. Fans are fanatical.
